I was about to post a "most overpriced DVD ever" post myself.

I LOVE the first movie, but the only DVD copy that seems to exist is a two-pack with the (rubbish, IMO) sequel... and it's going for $150-$300 US on Amazon marketplace! What do they know about this film's release that I don't?

I mean, it's a really cool, fun little film, but... $200 average for it?! Huh? WHY? Sell a couple of these and they've probably made more than Vernon was paid for his work on it!

I always assumed this was a film few people had heard of, and I was one of the few who liked it (not like IMDB is full of rave reviews and posts on it) so then where the heck are all the fans who are going to pay this sort of money for it? You could probably buy a print of the film itself for less!

Seriously, why? What don't I know here?

(even more amusingly, I got the the sequel on DVD for $2!).

It's pretty simple, a rather old rule and or merchandise concept, have you heard of "Supply and Demand". "Sell a couple of these........" Oh yeah, where would one find or locate a few or even a couple of these impossible to locate, Out of Production DVD title, and how do you have the sequel to this movie when it does not exist in Region 1 DVD format now or probably ever. You'd love to see this flick again, well how do you think you'll pull that one off? Perhaps you'll catch it on cable, chances are about nil for that one, how else? You either pay the freight, or you go in your mind and relive the scenes from the last time you seen it, or you'll never see it again, it's not too hard a concept. You either pay the cash for a very rare and scarce DVD item, or go by your old memories, Hey, hope I helped out!

Normally I'd agree... years ago, if you wanted that rare workprint VHS tape of Alien 3, tou'd have to pay through the nose at a convention; no other option.

What confused me here was that this is a pretty much an unknown movie... while I love it, most who've seen it dismiss it as cheap rubbish. It's not like Fantasia going out of print, and everyone wanting one. It may surprise you that I understand the concept of "supply and demand"... my surprise is that there is - by your logic - such a high demand for this tiny obscure film that people will pay (or resellers think they'll pay) the prices being charged for this DVD.

Fortunately, all this is really moot, since there's another option: download it. Seeing as it is out of print, and DVD copies now only fund resellers/second-hand dealers, there's no moral issue of depriving the artists, just a question of it being somewhat hard to find on torrent sites (it is on Cinemageddon and I think Demonoid, I believe)... which is odd if this was SUCH a highly-demanded film, it should be pirated like there's no tomorrow, surely?

Normally, I'd MUCH rather own/buy the "proper" DVD, but not at the prices being asked! $50 or so, I can understand (I'm in fact probably one of the few people who'd consider it WORTH that kind of price!), but $250?! No contest of how to see it again.

Hope THAT helps out the OP! :D

$250 for a disc and case that probably cost $2 to put together...yikes.
