great movie

I love to watch movies and I love to read what other people thought of them which is why I check out the message board at IMDB frequently. I was very surprised to see only one message posted on this movie. It's such a sweet, funny and great movie, you should all go and see it. Actually I have been watching a lot of French movies lately and I must say there are a lot of terrific movies out there. La gloire de mon pere, which is the prequel to le chateau de ma mere for instance is also very good. I watched them in the wrong order but that didn't effect the stoy too much fortunately.

While on the subject of French movies; I would also like to recommend Jean de la Florette, Manon des Sources, Chocolat and for those of you with a strong stomach: Irreversible. That last movie is a completely different genre but in my opinion a must see if you like movies. Monica Bellucci is in it and she is one of the most beautiful woman to grace this earth. She is a great actress too. Recently I saw her in Malèna and I was so taken I wanted to step in and help her.

I agree with most of what you say apart from chocolat which is appallingly bad and also not really a french film. Irreversible a great film but not sure it should be posted about here but there we go.

you should however checkout

3 colours trilogy (especially red)
amelie
red lights
5 x 2 (cinq fois deux)
l'appartment
l'homme du train

Jean de la Florette, Manon des Sources - those sound very interesting. Though I live in Germany, I think the movie supply in cinemas and on television is quite different from the US, but I've never even heard of those films. I will check them out.

Despite its French Title, "Chocolat" (2000) was a UK production. The cast was very international. And "Malena" is Italian by Tornatore. If you like the last one, check out "Nuovo cinema Paradiso".

Another french classic: Ascenseur pour l'échafaud with music by great Miles Davis.

Jean de la Florette, Manon des Sources
In Germany on DVD.

My recommendations:
Les Palmes de M. Schutz - biography of Madame Curie, similarly nostalgic and humorously told.
Les Choristes - popular heartwarming french film
Les Enfants du marais - Amazon recommendation for CHATEAU DE MA MERE.

Le Marie De La Coiffeuse, it's my girlfriend's favorite movie.

And while it's a Belgian movie, you should also check Le tout nouveau testament, a more cynical turn on 'God', but still with a good spirited main character.
