A Classic

This is my favorite Christmas movie of all time! It was on tv when I was a baby and my mom taped it for me. I have watched it every Christmas since then and I still get as excited as I did when I was little.

Hmm...fra..gi..le...Must be Italian!

reply

I'm the very same way! My mum taped it the first time it was on and it wouldn't be xmas without it. :D

Embrace the total geek in yourself and just enjoy it. Life is too short to be cool.

reply

Thank you for replying! I was beginning to think I was the only one who's ever seen this movie. Merry Christmas! :)

It was tapped for me too. I haven't seen it in several years. It's been a long time. I usual don't watch puppet type movies anymore, but I like this type of stuff to trigger past memories.

reply

Aww. I miss this movie! I watched it every year around Christmas, but then somebody taped over my copy (it was taped off of tv, as well). Just the other day in the car my mom and I were talking about it, and my friends were looking at us like we were crazy.

"Do you remember that one movie...with Kermit, and the toys?"
"Yeah!"
"And they get frozen if anyone catches them moving around the house!?"
I guess we did sound kind of crazy, though.

Does anyone happen to have a taped copy of the spin-off series THE SECRET LIFE OF THE TOYS?
They didn't have cable TV where I lived back in the mid 90's and I really would love to see the shows....
We taped it the first time it aired on tv as well.....as a Kraft Products Special Production....I have a DVD-R now, so I've taken it and copied it to DVD so it won't wear out anymore. Bu I'd love to have the spin-off series. Wish they'd air it again or sell the episodes on tape!!

reply

i can remember watching the spinoff as a kid but cant really remember what happened in it, all i can remember is apple not being there (i think) and balthazar going outside the room.
i love the christmas toy and used to watch it all the time as a kid, i had like a set with 2 muppet babies videos, an anniversary video about jim henson and the christmas toy, christmas toy was by far my favourite video of the set and still is my favourite christmas movie. i wish it was more available today, id love a dvd of it so i dont have to worry about my video wearing down, but, even cooler, would be to have my own rugby the tiger. lol.

My Mom taped it for us too as kids and every year at Christmas we watch it. I was surprised to find out that it was only aired once in 1986 and am so glad my Mom caught it so we can enjoy it every year! Coincidently, I just saw it for sale on Amazon.com, DVD, for about $30. Christmas just wouldn't be the same without it!

reply

I watched it again last night. I have it on VHS from and old Muppet boxset i got when I was little. My Mum and Dad always remind me and my brother of how often we used to watch it, even when it wasn't Christmas. Even my mum sat and watched it with me last night, and I was surprised that even she knew the words to the whole movie as well as me!
You just can't beat this movie, the cuddly toys, the songs, and the very real messages it gives out. And you're right, Christmas wouldn't be the same without it.

reply

OH MY GOD, ARE YOU SERIOUS?!?!?! Somebody else remembers those corny Kraft commercials? "Celebrate the season...with Kraft!"? WOW! I ALWAYS remember those, and I remember being sad because my mom stopped taping halfway through the commercials and I thought they were really Christmasy and I wanted to see them all the way through.

Thaaaat iiissss soooooo wweeeeeeiiiiiirrrrrrrrd

Dude, my email is [email protected], I will PAY GOOD MONEY for a copy of the movie with those commercials. Not kidding.

reply

FYI the commercials are on YOu tube and I just bought the TV guide with the recipes on Ebay.

reply

This movie is AWESOME! Seems like everyone's mom taped this. I used to watch it every Christmas, but I think it got lost. Such a classic. I'm glad others appreciate it as much as my brothers and I.

reply

I'm a Mom who taped it! My kids (and me and my husband) loved to watch it every Christmas. Sure wish it came on DVD!

Oh man...I used to love this movie! I was 6 years old when it aired. Right before it was on TV we got our VCR and my parents taped it for us...my little brothers and I used to watch it all the time. In fact, I watched it so much that I memorized the entire movie!

I'm pretty sure it's on DVD somewhere...I know for a fact that it was on VHS at one point because a childhood friend of ours had it back in 93 or 94.

I'm going to need liquor. Lots and lots of liquor.

Thank goodness there are other people besides me and my family that watch it every year! :D

I feel bad... i just found out that the movie is a year and a half older than me!

reply

I love this movie. Anyone else think Pixar ripped it off when making Toy Story?

reply

I felt that way when I first saw Toy Story. That's probably why Disney won't release this on DVD.

reply

Stupid Disney. Walt is rolling over in his ice cube right now. I think he would want it out on DVD.

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this movie!!!!! Like everyone else on here, my mom taped it for my sister and I when we were little kids. We watched it over and over again. Just a couple years ago, we bought a secondhand VHS copy off Amazon, since the old tape was wearing out. My mom is a kindergarten teacher and she has started showing it to her class every year! The movie is 20 years old now, but she says the kids just love it!!

reply

My parents bought the vhs copy of it when I was about 5, that was in 1989. I've always loved it and it's been my fave, right up there with A christmas story. I've seen this movie every Christmas since then and I still get a little teary when Rugby sings to Mew about how he never knew what a good friend he had until he lost him. I actually love the part when Mew sacrifices himself for his friends, it's really dramatic. It's very much like Toy Story, especially given that Meteora is from space and pretty much doesnt' know she's a toy. Both movies are good, though. It's a good story, people will copy it.

reply

This guy sells/trades this, Muppet Family Christmas (unedited) and countless other Muppet/Henson specials that seem to have been lost or forgotten over the years. The DVDs even have chapter menus, very well done and VERY reasonable!

Okay, now I don't feel crazy. Now that I know how many other people remember this movie.....not to mention the Kraft commercials. *sigh* The good ol' days!
