B movie fun which took a brave step for it's time!

To start with why does every single source on the internet say that this film was made in 1990? The date at the end of the closing credits clearly says 1988.

Anyway, as films go it's not the worst in the world but it's pretty crap. I never noticed it when I was young but it really has a proper TV movie feel to it. In fact this could EASILY have been a pilot for a pretty decent TV show but I doubt the quality of the fights would have sustained (or even been allowed to air).

The action is where it's at though and it's typical Golden Harvest quality all round. Lovely wide shots featuring some smooth choreography and some glorious OTT sound effects.

Special kudos to the producers for actually casting a proper female lead in a film and one who not only is a figure of authority but who doesn't need to get her tits out. In fact she never wears anything remotely revealing in any scene and in her position as Sheriff she has 2 men working under her as deputies which for 1988 was a pretty brave move without the backup of some sleaze to sell it.

Has it's place for sure in the cult world, even more so for the main character being the obvious inspiration for Sonya Blade in Mortal Kombat.

No Oscars but a special place in history for sure!
