Chucky's eyes were inconsistent.

Just rewatched the trilogy.

One thing that kept bugging me about this movie was Chucky's eyes.

In 1 + 3 his eyes always look like a Good Guy Doll. He often furrows his brows in rage, but his actual eyes look like the doll's eyes. It is one of things (especially in the first one) that makes him so creepy. During the shots where he's just an inanimate doll, you know that he's just waiting there keeping perfectly still and there's a lot going on behind the eyes.

Now in this movie his eyes change a lot. When he is in inanimate doll mode, his eyes look like the lifeless pale blue eyes of a Good Guy doll as they should. However, whenever he is exposing his true nature and being murderous Chucky, his eyes look COMPLETELY different. His irises become bigger and a darker shade of blue, as if he somehow has the ability to morph his eye appearance at will. It's not a huge deal, but I found it somewhat distracting especially since there's no real good reason for it to happen.

dont remember if it was in the production notes or in an interview with one of the producers. but there was a reasoning as to why the change in Chucky's eyes in Child's Play 2.

my gripe was always that the doll was different. i prefer the look of the Good Guy doll and Chucky in the first film. its so different in part 2+3 and of course Chucky's face is different in every film. in the sequels they also neglect to show Chucky in his transformation from doll to human. they just keep him looking like the doll from beginning to end.

of course thats how it goes with horror films. they always gotta make revisions to the characters. even if its just a mask, clothing, or their iconic weapon of choice.

Hmm, I'll try to find that info. Good to know that there was a reason for it. I was worried everyone on here would think I was crazy and say "His eyes don't change! you're Nuts!" IT just bugged me so much, it was like he had these episodes where he turned human for a minute from his doll form, not that he was a human IN doll form.

And I agree, the Good Guy from part 1 was the best of the bunch. Those vacant eyes, the small frame, the head movements. The doll looked the most harmless then, which made it all the more terrifying once you saw the unspeakable acts it could commit.

yea i believe it was Mancini and someone else that was being interviewed. he talked about what he didnt like about part 3 and mentioned why Chucky acts and looks a certain way in the films. and one of the things he brought up was the eyes for part 2.

yea i think they pulled it off better in the original. because the good guy doll in parts 2 and 3 looks downright creepy and more plastic.

I agree here, overall I liked the way Chucky looked in 2 but he simply didn't slowly take on the features of a human like he did in the original, the receding hairline and emerging uni brow etc. Something about that slow emergence of a twisted man inside and corrupting this innocent child's plaything was where his creepiness and originality came from IMO.

I'll also go one further by saying that I preferred Chucky when they used latex for his skin, in both Bride and Son they switched to silicon which to me always looks too gelatinous and wet, it may move better than latex but the overall look isn't as pleasing to me.

His eyebrows also begin as drawn-on, brown lines, and, when he comes to life, become bushier, red brows. I always chocked it up to him becoming "more alive", though.

Since his possession of the doll is a supernatural I interpret the physical changes too. When Charles wants to be still and sneaky the doll is lifeless and looks like plastic. When he is moving or showing expressions it's like the materials of the doll are possessed too and become lifelike. I always thought that the doll started to look more and more like Charles Lee ray because that was the personality that was in it. Anyway that is how I like to I interpret the whole thing.

For those that have seen curse of chucky and cult of chucky the catatonic good guy look is even different. To me the modern good guy doll look was like it was made to look cuter and even more innocent than the old good guy look. The face looks almost like a baby doll with the eyes and mouth with little teeth.
