Who got blamed for the murders in part 1?

If nobody believed Andy and his mother, then how the police explained the murders? Who killed Maggie, Caputo, John, the doctor, etc?
And why Mike and his buddy wouldn't back up their story?

reply

They probably blamed the murders on a copycat killer of the Lakeshore Strangler that they just never *caught*.

Mike and his partner backing up the story, as well as Karen's being sent to a mental hospital is mainly because the studio didn't want to pay for the actors to return, so they all had to be written off without being on camera.

I always had a theory that all of them were going to get shipped off, but Karen convinced Mike to deny the story so he could be free to keep watch over Andy, maybe even take him in until she recovered. Then **** went south and Mike was denied custody, and Andy sent off to a series of foster homes. After Mike learned Chucky had returned in CP2, he kept a closer eye on Andy and pulled the strings to get Andy into military school to keep him from going to juvenile hall in CP3.

Interesting, but if the studio didn't want to pay the actors to come back for a small role, the script could at least specify what happened and why. Yes, they briefly say the police denied everything because they can't hurt the company with a story that doesn't sound plausible and that Karen backed Andy's story and was sent to a mental institution. But they never mention Mike and his buddy who were also eye witnesses to everything. Or who got blamed for the murders.

A copycat of the Lakeshore strangler seems a little off since nobody got strangled in the first place. And the fact that Andy was the only person with the victims in at least 3 murders should've raised a few eyebrows.

At the end of the day, it's a movie about a killer doll chasing after a doe-eyed little boy. There are going to be a lot of questions raised, it's just best to listen to the words of the MST3K theme song:

"If you're wondering how he eats and breathes, and other science facts/Just repeat to yourself "It's just a show, I might as well relax.""

Who wrote that song? WGA writers? If so, that figures. That lyric is designed to justify terrible writing. But terrible writing should not be justified.

Rather, writers should be held accountable for their sloppy work so that they stop churning out bad products and so that they do not receive undeserved credit for doing good jobs when they didn't.

I had almost the same question as the OP. But my question is: why did they let Andy off the hook for the murders they thought he did?

I assumed that they blamed Andy for the murders, yet inexplicably also decided that it's fine that he murdered all those people.

As far as I can tell, there is nothing in the film to suggest that they didn't blame Andy for the murders - except the ludicrous implausibility of letting Andy off the hook as mentioned in the previous sentence.

But if they were blaming "someone else," then that would be equally ludicrous, because Andy was the only one present at the scene when his mother's friend was murdered.

So either way, blaming Andy, or not blaming Andy, that's lazy writing that makes no sense.

The film needed to explain this.
