Could Chucky ever be a protagonist?

He's just too likable now to remain a villain. Or at least him be an anti-hero. Like there's another killer and Chucky has to save somebody (that has some kind of benefit to him).

I was toying with doing a fanfic some years ago where a new Lakeshore Strangler surfaced, repeating the crimes of Charles Lee Ray, which naturally pissed Chucky off, while disgraced former officer Mike Norris was also trying to track this killer down.

Chucky discovers the new Lakeshore Strangler is actually his younger brother and Chucky wants to put a stop to him since the Lakeshore Strangler is hit tiel, and his title alone.

Chucky likable? What are you talking about? Chucky is not likable at all. And he is also completely one-dimensional.

No, he could not be a protagonist. Because they made him one-dimensional right from the get-go.
