When someone plots to kill you, and then you feel sorry for that person later, then yes, you are soft.
Imagine it was some mean, ugly scumbag guy that was in her place instead and tried to kill you.

And it doesn't matter that she wasn't sure if they were doing the right thing or not. She cheated on him, killed him (in her mind), and stole from him.
It's one thing for someone to try to kill another who has done them wrong.

Haha, I felt exactly the same way. Felt very bad for her but figured it was just because I have such a crush on Jennifer Jason Leigh. JJL aside, it's still pretty cold. They allude to the fact he is capable of some pretty crazy things though, when the sheriff mentioned what a wild kid Clint was. So I guess they simply messed with the wrong guy.
