Was the whole movie meant to be realistic or highly metaphorical?

And with that in mind, are a lot of the illogical stuff we see in the movie, such as the fact that the police were unable to interview witnesses about the robber carrying a gun that Jamie Lee Curtis shot, Ron Pearlman's character carving out a bullet from his body with bare hands, using a towel around the gun to silence the gunshot sound etc etc etc, really goofs and/or plot holes or was the film supposed to be somewhat metaphorical and maybe a lot of it is either supernatural or in Jamie Lee Curtis' mind etc?

What do you think, thanks.

Sorry, haha, its Ron SILVER, not Pearlman.

It’s just a trashy thriller with some implausibilities. Very enjoyable and underrated though.
