I just finished watching it. I don't think I've ever seen the full version before, but this does look like it. It includes the assassination attempt of the guy from South Africa and Dr. Winslow's mother and sister who were cut out of the edited version.

I really enjoyed it.

I just got it. It even has scenes in it that were removed for the 2 night miniseries. I have that on tape but its ruined.
MY ONE BEEF. The film is zoomed in one for some reason. Its like 4 inches around the orignal screen are cut off.

I don't think I've seen the original 2 night miniseries. Which scenes were added back in?

reply

Clare askes her sister out to lunch with her mother and the sister declines. In the TV 2 night, after this, it switches to the oil feilds. They cut out the mother and Joanna kerns having dinner and discussing the sisters choice in men etc. They also chopped out the boyfriend walking into the mothers house for dinner and conversations. It just switched over from the 2 of them at the door, to the dinner scene. There are some others with Clare and her husband, and also the beginning when Clare comes home and talks to Sonia and tells her about keeping a great house. All these scenes arn't on my original version they aired. Very shocking.

One scene omitted from the DVD i noticed, was the before we get introduced to the sister and her boyfriend, It used to start outside of the 17 story condo at night. The motorcycle pulls up and they kiss and talk. Though, that scene wasn't that spectacular anyway, i noticed it was cut. that was it though.

Wasn't there a scene where a woman is walking (or standing) with a man at night when a plate glass window shatters on them? I seem to remember this from somewhere. Also, was there a scene following the quake where a crack opens in the ground an several people fall in?

reply

I remember one man falling into a crack, but not several people. The plate glass window scene is back in. Its with the Sister and boyfriend in front of the jewlers. She says, "you know something, I love you" and a 5.0 earthquake comes and they hold each other and the glass shatters.

I finally got an email from Amazon saying it's gonna ship soon. They must have ran out or something. I should be getting it this week the latest. Can't wait to see it!. It's been about 16 years that I saw the original uncut televised version.

Another one I can't wait to get my hands on is "The Last Days Of Pompeii" The 1984 ABC mini-series.
It starred Leslie Ann Down, Ned Beatty, Linda Purl...etc. Haven't heard anything about this one being released on DVD. Has anyone?

You know, if it wasn't 7:30 in the morning I would have a drink

reply

Hey, let me know if your copy has like 4 inches of the original screen cut off around the the television. The close up shot of the people are way too close now. Its almost like they had the setting zoomed in too close when copying to DVD.

Mine is like that too. And the scene of the man falling into a crack in the sidewalk is cut. I remember that vividly from the orginial movie. Wonder why they make changes like this? It doesn't improve the quality of the movie.

I got mine at Wal-Mart this year before I moved from FL to IL, finally got to watch the DVD, it has the whole thing just as it was viewed originally on TV when it came out in '90. I was largely disappointed with the VHS version as it took way too much out. Mrs. L.

yes, they really hacked out way too much in the vhs making it a 90 minute film.
This one has more emotion to it and they make it appear the father dies at the end.

Well, just before I moved from Cent. Fl to IL, I had bought the DVD in Wal-Mart and I had'nt seen it since I had bought the VHS version. At first, I thought the movie had been cut just as it was on the VHS. I watched it practically all the way through; there are some scenes I still can't watch. Way too much graphic violence is too much for me, so I just put my head down. However, I ended up here because I put the name on IMDB search and viola, here I am. . I still frequent TPA message board. Hope you're having a fine day. Mrs. L.
