New Basket Case 2 DVD release is good....

- Beyond The Wicker a brand-new making-of featurette. (22 minutes)
New interviews with: Frank Henenlotter,Gabriel Bartalos, & James Glickenhaus.
Very good bonus feature with behind the scene footage from the movie also.

- The Man In The Moon Mask new interview with actor David Emge. (6 minutes)
A good bonus feature,It's good to see him after these years.I always liked him in Dawn of the Dead,I never knew he was Half Moon until I seen this.

- A 1.78 anamorphic transfer mastered from a high-definition transfer of the original 35mm camera negative.
Wow,The movie looks amazing in this new DVD release. I'm very happy with this.

I know after the long wait for this release there could have been more but I am happy we got this DVD after all these years with no american DVD release.I guess Frank Henenlotter didn't want to do a commentary that would have been nice with
Kevin Van Hentenryck & Gabriel Bartalos. Also why is there never any new interviews or anything from Kevin Van Hentenryck? Is he embarrassed by the movies or no one contacted him for these DVD releases? Also a interview with Annie Ross & Heather Rattray would have been good with other cast member interviews. On the making of featurette they basically said they didn't really cut anything so there's no need for deleted scenes I guess. Also a trailer and tv spots would have been nice.

I got my copy in the mail today from deepdiscount.com.

It does have a great transfer considering its over 15 years old. I liked the extra features, as it sort of makes up for the lack of a commentary.

I still would have liked to see a trailer included, as well.

Now, I must get part 3 somehow!

reply

Well 3 was released on DVD before 2 so it shouldn't be hard.

reply

theres no commentary?..... that's ridiculous.

"how about... a royal flush!" *loren avedon kicks a cauldron of boiling water into the bad guys*

You'd be surprised. For whatever reason, Fox's Basket Case 3 DVD is already out-of-print... Go figure.

Nice! I should buy the new dvd. I own the UK dvd with Basket Case 2 & 3. Sounds like this is the best version.

The transfer was so damned good. Last time i saw this film was about 10 years ago, ( at least) on a rental vhs, so going from that to this, was an awesome surprize after i had to wait 3 weeks for my copy ( damn you amazon)

To give a specific example, i have had 3 separate people assume that the movie was hd while walking into me watching it.

Though i am in the same boat with finding # 3.

Love the Basket Case 2 DVD release. I got Part 3. Got it brand new for two bucks two or three years ago at an FYE out of business sale a few towns over. Looks just as good as Part 2.

Although I've seen the movie a million times on video, I didn't realize how beautiful the photography was until I saw the movie on DVD. The print is flawless, the colors are correct (the video was oversaturated), and it's wonderful to finally see it in its correct aspect ratio.

For reasons that I don't understand, Henenlotter doesn't like to give interviews or talk about his own films. That explains the lack of commentary.

Kevin Van Hentenryck isn't ashamed of the films -- a while ago I talked to the director of "The Texas Chainsaw Redemption," and he said that Van Hentenryck entertained the crew by telling tales of the making of the "Basket Case" films, so I don't understand why he wasn't involved with any of the DVDs.

The omission of the trailer was a disappointment... but trailers for parts 2 & 3 are available at www.videodetective.com

It really doesn't. He did commentary for Something Weird's great BASKET CASE DVD, Synapse's great BRAIN DAMAGE DVD and UNEARTHED'S amazing FRANKENHOOKER dvd. I think he was just busy making BAD BIOLOGY

The English will not be pushed around much longer...
