Is anyone else bothered by Doc's strange smile at the festival?

I don't like the way that Doc smiles at Clara when she spots him at the party. It's disturbing. Doc has new feelings that might bring different facial expressions, but he doesn't have to look sinister. Apparently Clara thinks nothing of it.

Just rewatched. Does'nt look sinister at all. That's just a regular smile from Christopher Lloyd. I think you have had one too many. Sleep it off and than watch again ....😂😂😂

Agree: Doc has never had a girl from everything we know about him. I'd say he had a school boy crush look on his face.

reply

Galactus03, I don't drink. The smile in question does not look like any of the others that Doc produces in the trilogy.

reply

He is just a bit awkward.

reply

Gedmend, I understand that Doc is a stranger to experiencing powerful emotions for a woman, but that does not seem to change his expressions or social approach in any other scenario. For an odd reason, the scientist briefly displays someone who is not himself.

reply

Or you could say it's a new side of himself never seen before.

reply

I am sure that what you suggest is the purpose of the smile, but don't like the type. It carries underlying filth and perhaps even malice. Those don't apply to Doc whatsoever, so he shouldn't look like that.

reply

We don't really know much about Doc when it comes down to it so how can anyone really say.

reply

By this movie, we have seen enough of Doc to know that he has considerable morals. He refuses to use his talents for violence and does not want to destroy anyone's future chance at something as long as it is ethical. The inventor has disdain for crime and defends victimized people when he can. He even thinks that it's wrong to use scientific power for personal benefit that might accidentally and negatively affect others.

reply

I think he was just being a little weird though, he wasn't thinking anything evil when he smiled, the smile never signalized those things for me.

reply

Oh, I know that he isn't, Gedmend. That is another reason why the face bothers me. Not only is it disturbing, but it doesn't match Doc. Maybe he is not fully cognizant of the expression that he is making. It sounds, though, like you acknowledge that the smile is peculiar and discomfiting, even if you don't see anything alarming.

reply

Yeah, it's weird, i agree on that.

reply

Everyone has different types of smiles....

reply

Yes, Galactus03, but Doc looks radically different in the moment that I'm talking about. I know that we can expect him to, but the appearance does not suit the character of Doc. He doesn't look like someone who is innocently thrilled. Of course, we are not all troubled by the same things, and you must not see what I do. That is why I have asked in the first place.
