2 DeLoreans in 1885

First one was brought by doc when he was hit by a lightning in 1955. In the letter, he hid that DeLorean (timeline where he was killed) inside the cave for Marty, so Marty can use it to go back to 1985. But when 1955 Marty used it to travel to 1885,Doc should still have the DeLorean that was hit by the lightning with him.

Am I correct on this one?

reply

Yes, there are two DeLoreans in 1885. Doc wouldn't have one with him though, as he hid it in the cave so Marty could find it 70 years later. Remember Doc had been living in 1885 for some months and had already hid the DeLorean in the cave before Marty showed up.

"You're not thinking 4th dimensionally!"

reply

Well yes he had hid it but he still knew where it was.

We have to show the world that not all of us are like him: Henning von Tresckow.

reply

Of course he knew where it was. What's your point?

"You're not thinking 4th dimensionally!"

reply

You said Doc wouldn't have one with him! What do you mean by that? It wouldn't be in his workshop but he knew where he left it.

And please watch your attitude. I have a limited tolerance for petualance!

We have to show the world that not all of us are like him: Henning von Tresckow.

What I mean is the DeLorean was well hid in a cave, far from where Doc was living, and couldn't be touched until 1955. This is why I said it wouldn't be "with him", as the OP wrote, since I interpreted the OP thought Doc still hadn't hid it when Marty arrived in 1885 and was available for use. I could be wrong.

My attitude is fine. I just didn't understand your reply to my message.

"You're not thinking 4th dimensionally!"

reply

"..and couldn't be touched until 1955."

What?

why not?

What are you basing this assumption on?? Why couldn't it be touched? As long as you put the DeLorean back as it was, surely it could be touched all they want! They wouldn't even have to touch it that much - just open the gas tank, siphon some gas into a canister (they wouldn't even need much), close gas tank, done.

Give me _ONE_ good reason why this couldn't be done.

reply

Don't be so literal! Of course it could be physically touched, but doing so could be dangerous. Things could go well or go wrong, but Doc wouldn't take the risk.

By the way, I'm responding because I'm actually mcp-69798, that was my old IMDB account. 5 years ago, damn.

I can't understand this can even be an argument.

It has to be remained in the cave. Otherwise, how could Marty travel back to 1885?

"It has to be remained in the cave. Otherwise, how could Marty travel back to 1885?"

Talk about not thinking fourth-dimensionally..

Why would it have to REMAIN in the cave? (not 'has to be remained', but 'has to remain', please learn english, it's a fun language) Why?

Ever heard of 'putting things back to where they were'? Are you really so messy this thought never has crossed your mind? Have you ever cleaned a room or an apartment?

They wouldn't even have to move it or even disturb its tarp much - just enough to open gas tank and siphon some gas out into a canister, and close gas tank. Problem solved.

They could ALSO use it to transport anything they want back to the future (any date they want), and get anything they want from the future, and time travel 298 separate times during 27 years, AS LONG AS THEY PUT IT BACK IN THE CAVE IN THE END!

(It doesn't even have to have gas, because 1955 doc has gas)

Heck, they could build 2 more DeLoreans, and use those to time travel all they want, as long as ONE DeLorean ends up in the cave.

Sheesh.

Anyway, as I said, they wouldn't have to remove the DeLorean from the cave, they could just get the gas from it.

That's comically ironic, coming from someone who thinks English is spelled with a lowercase e, and who also thinks the plural form of the name Marty is Marties (LOL):

This was talked about at length in some old magazine, where they followed the timelines of both 'Marties'.

In reality, it's Martys, of course. You don't substitute ies for a y when pluralizing proper nouns:

Names and other proper nouns ending in y become plural simply by adding an s. They do not form their plurals with an apostrophe, or by changing the y to ies.
Correct: The Westerlys are coming to dinner.
Incorrect: The Westerly’s are coming over.

Correct: The Westerlys' dog had puppies.
Incorrect: The Westerlies’ dog had puppies.

Also, you believe that there's such a thing as a punctuation in the English language that consists of two periods in a row:

..and DOC IS DEAD for him, as well.
The other Marty must be ecstatic..

You also think that it's okay to end a sentence with this fictional punctuation of yours.

They wouldn't even have to move it or even disturb its tarp much - just enough to open gas tank and siphon some gas out into a canister, and close gas tank.

The hyphen that you used has no business being in your sentence. Hyphens are used for, e.g., certain compound words such as father-in-law. To denote a pause/break in a sentence, you use a dash, specifically, an em dash (—).

There's an old proverb that applies here:

People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.

Please learn English; it's a fun language.

The Doc is a man of all sciences, and for that, he knew it would be completely idiotic to store the DeLorean in a cave for 80 years without extracting all the fluids, i.e., fuel, oils, and such.

Leaving them in would have destroyed the entire engine. Just look at how the original tires faired [upon looking at the car in 1955]?

https://screenrant.com/back-future-part-3-2-deloreans-1885-paradox-explained/

At this point, the audience might be wondering why Doc and Marty don't simply use the time circuit control microchip from Marty's DeLorean to fix Doc's DeLorean and use it to travel into the future. The answer is that it would create a paradox. The two DeLoreans are, in fact, the same DeLorean. In order for Marty to find it in the future, Doc has to hold on to the DeLorean and hide it in the abandoned mine. It's a bit like how time travelers can't kill their past selves if they want to be around in the future to time travel.

In order to preserve the timeline, Doc and Marty have to travel back to the future in "their" version of the DeLorean, the future version that Marty uses to find Doc. Of course, that doesn't necessarily prevent the two from siphoning gas from Doc's DeLorean to use in Marty's DeLorean. But unlike some other time travel movies, Marty and Doc are always racing the clock in Back to the Future. So in addition to the possibility that lightning may have ignited the fuel from Doc's DeLorean, it's possible they didn't have time to dig out the trusty time travel machine.

" The answer is that it would create a paradox. The two DeLoreans are, in fact, the same DeLoread"

Wrong.

Irrelevant and immaterial.

It would not create any paradox AS LONG AS THEY PUT IT BACK ONCE THEY'RE DONE WITH IT.

They could use it as much as they want to fix the other DeLorean, then pop to future, get any tools, parts, etc. they need, including plutonium and gas - then they could come back with this souped-up DeLorean, and just put the other DeLorean back into the cave. There have been SO many 'paradoxes' in these movies already, even souping up the existing cave-DeLorean wouldn't create anything more than 'Doc and Marty in 1955 finda a much better-quality DeLorean in the cave'.

That it's the same DeLorean doesn't matter, as long as they put some DeLorean back in the cave. Even if it's a different DeLorean, created from scratch in 1985, all it would do is change the other DeLorean a bit. These kind of things happen a lot in this movie, matchboxes change, newspapers change, photographcs change, so why couldn't DeLoreans change, too?

In any case, to use the MOST CAUTIOUS method would be to enter the cave, get gas from it, put the gas to the 'broken-but-now-fixed-gastank'-DeLorean, and use that DeLorean to go to the future. Problem solved. The Cave-DeLorean is hardly disturbed at all, and it won't change history or future or past or anything, and Doc and Marty can do whatever they want in 1985 to the DeLorean.

Try to think fourth-dimensionally..

Yes there were two DeLoreans in 1885. But no they could not have used the other one to get back to 1985. Before I explain lets clarify which DeLorean is which.

1) The DeLorean that Doc was flying that was struck by lightning and sent back to January 1st, 1885. When Marty arrives in 1885 Doc has already hidden it in the old mine shaft, and prepared for it to be found 70 years later.

2) Is the DeLorean that Marty and Doc pulled from the mine in 1955, repair, and Marty takes to 1885 to rescue Doc. But then an arrow tears the fuel line and it leaks all its gas out. This is also the one that does eventually go back to 1985 and is destroyed by the train.

Now the question is, why couldn't Marty and Doc use #1 to go back to 1985, and leave #2 in the mine shaft? Well several reasons. First, Doc had probably spent weeks getting #1 in the mine and properly covered and sealed in. It would have taken as much time to dig out #1, cover and seal #2, then redo the chamber in the mine that it was hidden in. Doc only had a week until Buford Tannen killed him. Second, Doc would surely have known to drain all fluids out of a car for long term storage. He could have emptied the fuel tank months before, and used it for who knows what. And finally the biggest reason why they couldn't use #1, IT NEEDED MAJOR REPAIRS THAT WEREN'T AVAILABLE IN 1885. Doc made that very clear in his letter that he couldn't fix #1 in 1885. So since #1 is not usable, then why risk screwing up Marty's ability to use it 1955?
