How was this a comedy-horror?

When I saw this movie, all I saw was horror, no comedy whatsoever. Did I miss anything? Please let me know what parts made this film become slated as a comic horror.

Jeff Daniels' discomfort in having to examine the football team is funny. The junk food loving mortician is funny. The doctor ultimately having to sacrifice most of his wine collection. I get a laugh at the end that they moved back to San Fran and then have earthquakes to deal with. I laugh throughout a lot of the movie, even the wacky sherriff's frustration at having to be a chauffeur.

and that's too bad, esp. the lame song they play when he arrives.

It's hard to differentiate these days since most horror movies have at least a touch of humor in them. In the end, I think it's all about tone and I guess that's subjective since I personally found this movie to be a light and funny adventure compared to something like Scream, which was also supposedly pretty funny.

My favorite funny moment was when Jennings batted the General across the cellar like a baseball or tennis ball.

I found a few things funny especially scenes that seem to break the tension. For instance when Jenning woke up and saw that spider on the wall and he lined up the newspaper and all but just turned out to be a hook.

Until the spiders started killing people it was a light comedy with Jeff Daniels's being a worry wart. The quirky towns people: The doctor & his wife, the mortician & his wife, the coach and his family, the sheriff....all were Canaima kooky. Atherton's assistant was also funny. Even Manley , when he was in the jungle, was the funny guy while Atherton was the straight man.
