6.2, is that a joke?

This movie is one of the best creature features ever.

i agree too. its criminally underrated.

I saw it a few times in the theater when it was first released. I thought it was pretty scary at the time. I just watched it again last night on cable, and while still a good movie, it's pretty lame in spots. Mostly after the general spider leaves the morgue.

First the spider's size keeps changing as the movie goes along, there's too much comedy, and just way too many implausible things at the climax. The mechanical spider didn't match the real tarantula. I hated that the professor was killed so quickly, the spiders in the house decided to swarm at the most convenient moment, that the spider continued to attack while it was on fire(!), that Jeff Daniels was miraculously able to shoot the spider AND destroy the cocoon in one shot! And again, that the general spider's size changed continously throughout the movie.

reply

The reason for the size variances was they showed different spiders in different stages of growth.

It is not just one spider throughout the movie.

Some people have sticks in their asses, that's why the rating is low.

And some people try to pick at how "convenient" certain things are and at how unrealistic certain events are. In a movie. About killer spiders. The fact is that if anything in the movie were truly realistic or inconvenient then we wouldn't have a fricken movie at all. Or we would have a very boring one at best.

This was a good movie and deserves higher than a 6.3 but this movie is nowhere near as good as Finding Nemo.

reply

Most people don't compare horror and animated movies together. Usually you are giving a rating based on other movies in the same genre and comparing them against each other. Even if this one and Finding Nemo had the same rating, it wouldn't necessarily mean the were equal.
Arachnophobia deserves a higher rating for sure.

reply

I agree. How in the world could a movie like this have THAT low of a rating? I think maybe this website is starting to gain too many people that are rating films just for the fun of it and not because they have seen it or even care. Arachnophobia is a fantastic movie and will always be a fantastic movie!

reply

i agree too. Imdb ratings are really not trustworthy. Too many people with "agendas" of various kinds vote. On Rotten Tomatoes ( the other primary statistical rating site) it has a 93 percent Fresh Rating.

Delbert McLintock - Bugs B Gone!

Love his dialogue! "That's right. I'm bad" (to the dog)

"Has anyone seen my wife?" - Columbo

I agree, this movie deserves at least a 7.
