How was Patty Duke not nominated for an Emmy?

I don't see Patty Duke having been nominated for an Emmy for her role in this film. See was really excellent as Ruth, and gave a very genuine performance. Another actor in this role would have made this a lesser film. And Richard Masur was really good too.
