He died in a box.

A phonebooth box. Do you see?

Whenever he could he would try to escape his imprisoned life-in-a-box and visit the one dimensional Vermmeer of the wall.

Longing to enter this frame his soul would aspire to ascend to a hope that the boundaries holding him in place would yield to his spirit -

Gordon shall travel inward until inward became upward and until upward became outward and so leave everything and all -

Once there outside the box he would give a glance back and all would make sense at last... His will free from all tiny concerns and frenzy of planet earth where all that were and have gone before him seem to have expired under the weight.

It didn't work -

His life blood was the only part of him able to burst capillary boundaries and instead of vision he saw death - in a box.

Question, the only question really...

Is the box all there is?

Also, of course, his only acquaintance was just an illusion. She cared very little for him and he probably knew it.
