this is a great film, with alot of talented actors in! so why has no one posted anything about it?!

I seem to have a bit of a foggy patch around 1990. Think it was a reluctance to accept that the greatest era of films (1984-1989) was really over. Was Mel Gibson in Air America or am I thinking of something else?

reply

yeah it was mel gibson and robert downey jr. i have to say its one of my favs!

mine too. dunno why nobody liked this film...

I'm genuinely stunned that this movie doesn't have more discussion and more votes here! Im not going to say that this is one of my favourite movies but I've always liked it and it was one of the first films I bought on DVD. I watch this film about once a year, never get tired of it.

Every time I'm stuck in traffic because "rubbernecks" in front of me are slowly down to stare at a car accident, I think of this film and the scene where Downey Jr is telling off the truckie.

I think it is a great film and enjoyed it alot more than I thought I would. And by the way Goodfellas was a 1990 film, you surely cant have forgotten about that.

Feel free to email me about any questions you have at [email protected]

I didn't think 1990 was a drought at all. Edward Scissorhands, Dances with Wolves, The Hunt for Red October, Pretty Woman, The Godfather: Part III, Goodfellas, Misery, Back to the Future: Part III, Reversal of Fortune, Total Recall, Flatliners.. and the first Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles! Some better than others, but no matter what your taste you had to like at least a few of those.

I don't mean to start an argument or anything but this was one of the only films I walked out of the cinema before the end. Nothing happens!!

reply

a terrible loss,my friend..you missed out on a great movie !!

reply

Armaturk - just curious, what movies do you like?

Joe

reply

Most people have never heard of it.

I don't think I've seen it for sale, ever. Only as a rental. That could be another reason. My copy is a beat up old VHS recording off TV from 10 years ago. :)

Joeresearch - Top 5ish probably something like Taxi Driver, Usual Suspects, Sideways, Star Wars and American Beauty.

reply

good choice, especially Star Wars and Taxi Driver. you're right, Air America is a real bore.

reply

just watched Air America, it was great, i enjoyed it, i cannot beliuve it gets a 5.2 rating, its shud be between 6-8-7.2

reply

I can't believe it got a 5.2 rating either.

1984-1989, the greatest era for film? Not even close. Entirely subjective, but I'd say 1968-1979 was a far superior period of film. From "2001" to "Apocalypse Now". And as for the lack of discussion in regards to this film, I'd say it's either because people realized what a lame buddy movie it was, or because they did not want to enter into stupid arguments with empty-headed conservatives operating under the delusion that Air America did not move "the sticky bricks". When the film was released, it was blasted by The Wall Street Journal as a disservice to the brave men who died in Vietnam. Since then, of course, pilots have admitted transporting illicit materials. The film, as originally written by "The Stunt Man" director Richard Rush, could been the next "MASH". Instead, we get a lame-ass buddy movie chockful of anachronisms.

reply

Its still a fun movie to watch. Yes, a shame it could have been the next MASH but hey, you win some you lose some. I watch it because it has two people that I enjoy watching on screen, Mel and Robert. Not everyone can kick back and enjoy a film solely for enjoyment. And if anyone wants to argue this, I wont reply. I don't want to make anyone feel chubby in the pants cause they thrive off of arguments. Sorry...

by the way JRotten...I'm not posting my response in rebuttle to your response cause thats just not how I roll. And, I also agree that 1968-1979 was a dope era for film making.

There ya go. My two cents.

To quote Santa Claus: Ho-ho-ho. The coke-sniffing
producers, stars and directors was still in full
swing, and it shows in diatribe and cynacism.

Ho-ho-ho.

reply

Who are you kidding? The greatest era of films was 1970-1984.

Douche.

reply

I finally got around to watching it. Sure, lots of talented actors, but a pretty mediocre movie overall. Oh, well.

reply

My theory as to why so few like this movie is because it was hard to categorize. The film wasn't just one type of movie all the way through. It wasn't a real buddy comedy, it wasn't exactly a war movie, it wasn't wholely a drama, it wasn't entirely an adventure movie or an action movie. It was a little bit of everything and THAT is why I liked it.
I DON'T love it, but it's good enough for what it was and if it came on tv I'd probably take it easy with the remote an stick with it.

Its a planet-destroying superlaser. How well does it need to be calibrated?
