I must have seen this movie more than 20 times, and pretty certain i can watch this flick over and over again and it will be as good as i saw the movie first time 10/12 years ago.
Amitabh's dialogue delivery is damn powerful, and direction by the Late Mukul Anand is plain superb.

i haven't seen too many of Amitabh's films but i do agree its a great performance 10/10.
this film endlessly watchable, i have probably seen this film 20 times.
its a shame that bollywood films of this quality are not better distributed.
other films which are in the same class as Agneepath i would say are Bombay (1995), Lagaan and not forgetting 1942 Love Story.
i too watched this film as a child probably 10 years ago and its universal family elements are still relevant today.
10/10 for sure, but hes had a few of those, i think perfomances like DEEWAR, TRISHUL,ZAMEER, KAALA PATHER,SHARAABI,MUQADAR KA SIKANDER, SILSILA, BEMISAAL, MAIN AZAAD HOON, BAGHBAAN were all 10/10s. what a man!
shareYeah you are right, Amitabh acting is just mersmerising. He is indeed God when it comes to acting.Amitabh was simply awesome in this movie. Its akin to blasphemy when anybody compares him to the likes of Shahruks..He is unparalleled.
You watch hte movie and then you realize that he leaves very little almost nothing for improvemnt, his dislogue delivery ..his rich baritone, his way of carrying himself..Nothing can evr reach his heights
Just saw the new Agneepath and I wanted to see the original 22 years ago. And my God.. from the time Amitabh comes on screen till the end, he left me mesmerised. Compared to him, todays actors with the exception of Aamir Khan, are quite laughable. Awesome performance, Hats of to Big B.

I read so many reviews bout old agneepath being amazing n new1 isn't close enough.
So I saw 1st one first, my god its bad except some parts of the story. Loose direction, overly melodramatic,weak script n bad bad acting. overacting all d way, every1, let it be mithun or rohini hattangadi or I'm sad to say Mr. Bacchan too. Only good acting in movie is by Danny I must say.
Wen u compare it to newer version, its lot better, its not a must watch movie for me but acting by Hrithik compared to Bacchan is subtle. N rishi Kapoor is awesome. Best thing they did was to cut the mithun part n intro Rouf Lala character. Sanjay Dutt also did upto his mark.
Older one does not show how Vijay Chouhan became such great gangster, its very unconvincing. He jus arrives out of nowhere, newer has it covered very well. Probably rise of Vijay is BEST PART OF MOVIE.

Amitabh Bacchan can never be a bad actor, but he was bit over the top in this IMO. N as I talk with the oldies bout movie(n if u read wikipedia article on it), its clear that HE WAS NOT ACCEPTED BY PUBLIC, HIS DOOM STARTED WITH THIS VERY PERFORMANCE. THE MOVIE WAS FLOP ON BOX OFFICE. HE DID NOT RISE TILL KBC IN 2000.
Yes it was cult, but I think its more of a Vijay Dinanath Chouhan the character n its few dialogues, the movie was known for.
Sometimes a film needs a performance which is over-the-top. Heath Ledger in TDK, Al Pacino in Scarface, SRK in Darr, Robert De Niro in Cape Fear, Jack Nicolson in The Shining, Malcolm McDowell in A Clockwork Orange, Anthony Hopkins as Hannibal are a few performances that come to my mind. Not everyone can pull off an over the top performance but the ones who can hit it straight out of the park.
Your opinion is your opinion and I think Hrithik's version is an okay film but if you're gonna call it Agneepath then I'm gonna blast it the same. This film is phenomenal and I don't think they could've found a better background score.
As for box office success, Some of the biggest hits of Bollywood happen to be Ready, Bodyguard, Chennai Express, Golmaal 1, Golmaal 2, Golmaal 3, Golmaal 4, Ghajini, Dhoom 2, Dhoom 3, Singh in Kinng and 60% of those terrible Akshay Kumar films so IN YOUR FACE, LOSER!!! It's not the movie's fault if you can't appreciate it's greatness.
ps: Most scenes in this film are epic. Vijay Dinanath chauhan + That Score = EPIC GOOSEBUMPS!!!!!!!! Ekdum masterjee ki tarah baat karta hai........ Ekdum Masterjee.

This is definitely one of Bachchan's best performances, and that is why he won the National Award for it. The kind of personality that the man has, he can say tons just by standing and doing nothing. That is his star power. Sorry bu SRK and Hrithik and all the other actors don't have that power, no matter how much money their movies may gross.
