Who was this originally written for?

If you listen to the director's commentary, the script "The Adventures of Ford Fairlane" was written originally without Dice. When the studio decided to turn it into a Dice movie, it was re-written to add in Dice's personality.

Does anyone know who the movie was originally intended for?

I bet it was meant for Bruce Willis, he was a big star around that time.

Bruce could have carried off with a smirk and a sassy remark, Clay was rubbish.

Bruce Willis,really?

Renny Harlin directed Bruce in Die Hard 2,which came out the same year (only one week apart),as much as I love Bruce,I can't imagine anybody else but Dice in this role.

I used to watch this all the time,I'm from Norway, the first place to have it released on DVD.

The cover said something like "You're not a man before you've seen Ford Fairlane 10 times"

I'd imagine it was just a screenplay that was floating around, doesn't have to necessarily be written for anybody. I'd like to think it was intended for Pee Wee Herman though

..or at least I think so lol http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z-JphygYybU

A little late reply,but

Actually,Donald Trump has agreed to do a remake, while he's in office.
He was quoted:
"It's a tremendous,tremendous script.
It will be the best movie ever,
and my daughter iwankoff is playing my love interest".
I would make love to her soo hard, grab her and all of her cats
if she wasn't my daughter

Reader Blind: A little over three decades ago, there was a movie ("The Adventures of Ford Fairlane"). It flopped hard, and few remember it, but the writers (David Arnott & James Cappe) of this film were trying to tell us something. Despite being heavily re-written so this notorious comedian (Andrew Dice Clay) could be cast in the lead, it still managed to remain a thinly disguised swipe at the mogul (Clive Davis) all of you know, and what happens to those who cross him.
