Best Zorro ever.

I watched this when I was like 6 or 7 and fell in love with it, and have been comparing every other Zorro film to it since. I thought I was just being biased to what I had seen first, but with reading a lot of opinions by other fans, I guess this show was pretty good. I'm always a fan of the man in black...who wears a mask...and rides a horse. And the sword fighting is hot too. :)

Alas, why won't they release it on DVD?

Everyone needs to go to TVShowsonDVD.com and vote for this show to be released on DVD. As of today, only 501 people have voted that they would buy it if it came out on DVD. It ranks 484th on the list of unreleased series!

If more people vote, the more likely it will be that it will be released. Tell everyone you know who is a fan of this show to go vote for it!

I think you have to register to vote, but it's free and pretty painless. And worth it if we can get this show out on DVD. I do have all 88 episodes taped but they are getting old (13-16 years old) and worn out. I really, really need it on DVD!

This series deserved a longer run and a more satisfying ending, but all in all, the best Zorro series ever for many reasons

Duncan Regehr - the best Zorro - brought class, artistic individuality, depth, intelligence, athleticism, along with chiseled good looks and a distinctive and delightful flair for the Zorro character to this role. No one has ever done it better! Duncan Regehr in real life is a gifted artist, published poet, and champion athlete in boxing and ice skating - an unusual combination which explains the unique skills he brings to this portrayal.

Patrice Martinez - the best Zorro heroine - She absolutely creates the role of Victoria - spunky but vulnerable, innocent, sweet, spirited, loyal and intelligent, as well as graceful and lovely. You really do want Zorro/Diego to fall in love with someone just like Victoria - and vice versa - and you can't help rooting for this couple to have a very happy ending but a very long and interesting and romantic courtship also -

Henry Darrow - always classy, brings a special quality to every role he is in. One of my favorite actors ever!

Terrific ensemble cast with new characters rather than relying on the excellent but already established Disney Zorro series. A well told story, well acted, with great character development, well researched historical details, unforgettable stars - good clean fun for all ages, too, to include a trite but true description -

What more can you say? This series deserves a DVD with a 5 star rating.
Even today, 17 years after the beginning of the first season (1989-1990), it enjoys a solid fan following from viewers and with very good reason. Many follow up series are a disappointment, but taking nothing away from the great Disney series, this Zorro expanded upon and even exceeded the original - a real achievement!

Don't miss it!

The acting is the exact opposite of "well acted".

I don't mean to sound like a fanatic here but I agree, this was the best Zorro I have seen. I also loved the love interest in it and the comedy relief from Mendoza and the two Alcaldes.

Best Zorro Show- They got it right from the very beginning. Unlike the Zorro Movies with Antonio "i dont even have the mostashe" Baneras!!!

LOL! Yes I loved this version of Zorro too, for those exact reasons! So great! lol!

I know, now if they would either play it on TV or release it on DVD I will be more then happy.

reply

Actually most of the series is on YT and has been for about 2 yrs now.

The first season was released in Germany for almost a year ago, but only with german as the speaking language. Here is a link to the ones who distributed it http://www.kinowelt.de/dvd/zorro-1_staffel, but you can't buy it from them.

reply

Indeed it was! Antonio Banderas might be Spanish but he doesn't look like Zorro!

If I'm not back in 5 minutes...
Just wait longer..

Well, I'll have to take your words for it, because it was never shown here in North Florida where I live. I reckon some of these syndicated shows are just not previewed intelligently by the local channels and end up being ignored.

I, too, like this show a lot, but I think the Disney series was better. As good as everyone in this show is, I think Guy Williams and crew were a tad better. The Disney series seemed like it had better production qualities, and since it was filmed in California instead of Spain, it looks more like Los Angeles. Since Disney colorized their black & white film in '92, it matches up well on that front, too. (And in the Disney series, Diego wears different colored suits, instead of only the blue one Duncan Regeher wears in every episode).

I liked the movies too, but Guy Williams is Zorro to me. But, whoever wears the outfit of 'The Fox', Zorro is the coolest looking super-hero of them all as he races gracefully across the rooftops with black cape billowing behind, leaping and fencing with ease and a smile upon his face.

reply

MMMM, I agree with you for the most part. The Disney version from the 50s is better, but I really do like this version alot! it is 2nd place with ease!

I disagree with you on the filming location thing though.

I liked that the 90s version of Zorro was filmed in Spain.

I felt that filming in Spain gave it a nice exotic touch

^You should check out the Disney one from the 50's. It's very close in characterization (the fat dumb soldier, the deaf mute, evil ruler, etc..) Great stories as well!

I have to disagree with you because I do like the new one better, but I'm assuming the production quality was better because they didn't have a lot of money for the new one. Duncan wore different suits as Diego. I don't know about the 50s, but in the new one they filmed two or three episodes at a time too and because of the lack of money, they recycled a lot of the scenes.

Disney Zorro was miles better.

The 1990's Zorro had some good points, but overall it was pretty bad. The bottom line is its swash wasn't buckled. It was missing the real excitement of Zorro. Disney Zorro captured that swashbuckling spirit.

I've never been much of a Zorro fan, but I did like this series

LOL...out loud.

This series has good points, but it is really pretty bad. The fight scenes, for example, are awful. Soldiers often run after Zorro without really running. They trot behind him with their arms not moving, waiting for him to move out of the way so the soldiers can run into each other.

Disney's Zorro was much better. Like this one, the stories were often disappointing. Just when it looked like Zorro had met a worthy opponent, something silly would happen. But the music, acting, fight scenes, atmosphere: everything about that show was better.

reply

The soldiers never really wanted to catch Zorro. The fights were for the benefit of the Alcalde

reply

Have to go with Tyrone Power

Wish Regehr looked a little more Spanish. Also, it's really was a kids' show and definitely lost something after Michael Tylo left.
