Waiting for god meets Keeping up Appearances - the one-off special

I've posted this elsewhere but still want to see what people think haha. I'm fully aware that several of the cast members of both series have passed away, but maybe they could be recast. And of course this all just my wishful thinking...

I personally would love them to come up with a one-off waiting for god meets keeping up appearances. I think that would have SOOOOO much promise, just imagine it (for those who have watched waiting for god)...

Let's just say for some reason Hyacinth and Richard end up staying at Bayview for a few days. Perhaps like in the episode where Sheridan arranged a 'yacht' for them, this time he tells Hyacinth he has arranged it for mummy and daddy to stop in a 'luxurious seaside stately manor home complete with georgian dining hall!' how Hyacinth would love the sound of that, bragging to Emmet and Elizabeth... only to find out it is bayview retirement home.

Just imagine, Diana and Hyacinth - such an incompatible pair! Hyacinth would be disgusted by Diana's foulness and sharp tongue, and Hyacinth would absolutely drive Diana up the wall. Richard would probably breathe a sigh of relief getting to chat to someone like Tom, only to realise he's a complete nutter haha! And good lord, imagine what Hyacinth would make of Jane!

And of course, Daisy, Onslow and Rose would end up there somehow or another... perhaps daddy's followed one of the guest speakers at the over 60's club all the way back down to her home in bournemouth. I can just imagine Rose going after Harvey, finding him 'dishy', with Harvey (and Jane in particular) both being horrified!

Daisy and Onslow meeting Marion and Geoffrey, how awkward! Marion and Onslow in the ultimate drinking contest... its the beer versus the spirits.

All throughout this Harvey will be up to one of his usual scams which will ultimately be foiled by the unlikely combination of Hyacinth and Diana. An unexpected mutual respect will see it all end nicely, particularly when Hyacinth finally learns of Diana's old profession - meaning Hyacinth can go home proud and happy that she can boast to the neighbours about her new friend in bournemouth - Diana the one-time photo journalist, 'she worked for all the big newspapers and magazines... of only the very best taste of course'.

And as Hyacinth and Richard head off back home in the car, and Diana and Tom retreat to their room, Rose settles for going after Geoffrey as Daisy finally gets a bit of luck as all the drink goes to Onslows head and for once he promises her a darn good night.

I think I might sit down and plan it out a bit more haha!

Great idea. Would love to see this.

It would be funny, I agree. Superb idea.

Diana and Hyacinth in the same room. Hilarity ensues. LOL!!!

Are you going to pull those pistols or whistle "Dixie"?

reply

I think the catalyst for this meeting would have to be the decision to place daddy in a home...Bayview Retirement Home! Yes, I think it would be great, and should be a new series that combines Keeping Up Appearances with Waiting For God! A new series would be the only way to really allow characters to get to know one another and to get on one another's nerves. A one time meeting wouldn't have enough time to fully deliver on the possibilities.

OK, so what's the speed of dark?

reply

LOL, now that would be hilarious!!

"I promise you, before I die I'll surely come to your doorstep"

Who exactly out of the cast has passed away?
with the exception of a couple of minor characters i think you'll find them all still well and truly waiting

You are BRILLIANT! That is the best idea ever and if the makes of either series ever roam the boards of IMDB, I hope they pick the idea up. Got any other merging ideas?

reply

Sounds like a great idea to me, you also add to this special, that we finaly get to me "Sheridan", coming to Bayview to tell Hyacinth that he "sent her to the wrong place", which could end with Hyacinth and Diana chasing Sheridan around the grounds of Bayview threating to kill him when the catch him.

what a great idea. Hmm, that has me thinking about other Britcoms that could be put together. Can you imagine Hyacinth at Fawlty Towers? Or the Buckets and the Ledbetters (The Good Life). Of course, Paul Eddington has passed on, so he would have to be replaced. But a combination of Margo and Hyacinth would be hiliarious. Or Audry (To The Manor Born)and Hyacinth. And any of them up against Diana Trent would be a scream !!

Oh Jerry, don't lets ask for the moon,we have the stars.

You know, the major cast members are still alive. Why don't you write a script and sell it to the BBC. I'd love to see something like this.

Great Idea, I would love it!
