I mean it's kind of ridiculous. The narrative throughout entire season one and start of season two was that Audrey was too young to be Cooper's lover. Cooper even said so himself. But here comes Annie played by Heather Graham who are five years YOUNGER than Sherilyn Fenn and she and Cooper gets into a relationship. Never is the age difference between those two ever mentioned nor implied.

Even crazier, 6 years later Heather Graham plays someone still in high school in Boogie Nights

Furthermore, IRL at that time Kyle Maclachlan was together with Lara Flynn Boyle who played Donna and she is also five years younger than Sherilyn Fenn.

Since she wasn't in high school anymore, I'd say her character was supposed to be in her early to mid-20s. Which is a lot more acceptable to be a love interest for Cooper than an 18 y.o. like Audrey was. But that didn't stop Billy Zane's character from boning her.

It was stated that Audrey is a high school girl, presumably a senior. She just never went to class.

I noticed this, too.

Also I know they generally cast older people as high schoolers back then, but Audrey and Laura clearly looked mid 20s (especially Laura in FWWM!) and not 17-18, even with soft light and lens filters.
