Question about Doc Hayward in Finale

So he kills Benjamin Horne but is still performing his duties as doc for Coop near the episode's end? Am I missing something?

Ben's death is never confirmed. And seeing as he is alive and well in S3, one can safely say that the rumours of his death were greatly exaggerated.
