The only film I can think of that has any resemblance to the themes in Talespin is "Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow." I like the film, but I don't think it was ever well-received by audiences, so who knows if you'll like it. But it has a lot of the random elements from Talespin that made it so great.

If you watch "Castle in the sky there are several resemblances as well. Especially the Airship "Goliath" which looks like a inspiration for the Iron Vulture. And the story line of the owner of said ship seeking a powerful blue shinning crystal. As well as small actions and elements that are not directly transfer but are very close to each other... Kit Cloudkickers sky surfing after the SeaDuck reminds me alot of Pazu and Shita in the kite over Tigermoth.

I just realised that NausicaƤ of the valley of the wind have some elements too. I think it is safe to assume the team behind TaleSpin has been watching Hayao Miyazaki's films. Which of course Porco Rosso is as well.

Sky captain is a good one too.

Those are my principles, and if you don't like them... well, I have others.

I wouldn't say that the Goliath was an inspiration for the Iron Vulture. Both are big ships that fly but that's about where the similarities end. But the flying scenes of Laputa are definitely an inspiration for TaleSpin.
