Other Comic Book Characters on Show.

I was just wondering, throughout the series did any other characters from the greater DC universe ever make an appearance on the show?

Out of all the 72 episodes, I really can't remember even one character showing up. Not even the cheap knock off type that some shows do for creative reasons, or budget costs.

Wow, that's actually a bit surprising. Considering that Tim Burton's Batman came out around the same time along with The Flash TV series on CBS you'd think that they would've done at least 1 crossover to attract the hardcore comic fans. I wonder what their logic was. Maybe they just wanted to keep Swamp Thing provincal.

Legal Rights.
Today Warner Bros produces all the DC Comic adaptations itself. But in those days many of them were licensed out to various other studios and producers. Perfect example is the Superman films, which were produced by the Salkinds and only released by Warner Bros. Swamp Thing existed under an earlier outside deal that went back to the films. That show was produced by Universal Studios and USA network. So they could not have had any other DC characters appear if they wanted. They only had the rights to Swamp Thing and characters created for that comic.

Of course I doubtthey ever even thought of it. Swamp Thing was not really a Super Hero show. More of a Horror and Mystery series. It would have been strange for Superheroes to show up.

BUT there is at least one reference to the rest of the DC Universe. Might be more.
Dr. Woodrue is referred to a few times. Of course he became the villain The Floronic Man. John Glover played Woodrue in Batman & Robin.

Good to know thanks for the heads up and for the reference to Dr Woodrue.
