Noticed something in The Wait Out

In the episode "The Wait Out" as Elaine is having dinner with David (played by Cary Elwes) he lapses into a British accent when saying "We just had our 3rd anniversary on April 8th." I wonder if this was a slip by Elwes (who is English) or if the character is supposed to be speaking like that. It's kind of odd.

reply

I think I remember the Notes About Nothing say it was a slip. You might think an actor like him would have more experience with accents... or that they could have just done another take.

Now for my next impression... Jesse Owens!

reply

You know, fleurfairy, where I come from it's proper to say "pardon"

reply

He sorta struggled with a southern accent in Kiss the Girls. Except in the all important third act.

Why do they give out letter jackets to marching band? It's not a sport! We all know it!

reply

Cary Elwes, isn't he the one they wrote the song about?

reply

I love Cary Elwes' voice.

reply

As you wish.

reply

He used to be very sponge-worthy in my opinion..now not so much.

reply

Did he do anything about those sideburns?

reply

Not yet, but his blood tests are immaculate.

They were pretty rough, but they had something.
What was it?
I think it was the trousers.

reply

I'm not gay.

"Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?"

reply

There's definitely something wrong with that.

"Get out here, son! There's a doin's a transpirin'!!"

reply

I've been saying this for years. I always wondered why he said the line like that.

reply

Because.....unlike some OTHER Seinfeld characters, Elwes cannot speak without his English accent.

"Get out here, son! There's a doin's a transpirin'!!"

reply

But can he do a Cockney accent?

reply

Not bloody likely.

"You gotta punch the clock, why don't you punch your boss?"

reply

That's the worst cockney accent I've ever heard in my life.

reply

Sounded kind of Irish.

reply

They are probably from the border...I also heard it skips a generation though...

reply

Irishy? You think that his accent was Irishy?! Where do you get your genes from?!

reply

I was hoping for a "What's his last name?" Then I say "Luchner", then you say "That's not Irish."

reply

He can not NOT have an accent, and he can be just a tad bit MAGOO! (Liar, Liar)
