I don't know if there is another thread on this but how exactly does Jasper make money? I know he is a scientist and has a lot of inventions (that no one besides Olivia is too keen about) so how does he make enough money to just tinker around in his barn all day?

In "Tug of War" (S4x01), Jasper says, "I think were doing OK right now. I've got my magazine work, my researches, and my inventions." Olvia then says, "I know, but they're temporary and we just never know when another one will come in."
So, evidently, those were his jobs. One of the plots of this episode is Jasper getting a normal job (he gets a job as a bank clerk in Markdale). He was never a farmer.
I know he inherited the farm from his parents it was probably long since paid off and maybe he had been left a trust fund or something.
shareConsidering the colourful Dale family shown in the later season, it's odd that his parents were farmers. I wonder what they even grew.
Olivia described his mother as being somewhat overbearing (forbidding him to marry), so maybe her mother dragged Jasper's father down into conventionality.
