Seasons on DVD

I have been dying for the series on DVD but I don't understand why they're expensive and hard to find

The entire series is now available on DVD. The only reason each set is so expensive is greed on the part of the distributors. I have the whole series now, but it took me a long time because I only ever bought it each set when I could get it at a bargain price compared to the list price of anywhere from 69.99 to 99.99 for each season. If you look on eBay, you can find it as cheap as about $30 per season, that is roughly what I paid for each of the last two seasons. You may also find the odd season at a good used book/video store. I found season 5 in one, and paid $25 for it. It is in perfect condition.

The suggested list price is a ripoff. The discs are double-sided which is not the best way to present DVD sets. The 'extras' are sparse at best. The other thing I don't like is that they only play the full opening title sequence in the first episode of each season, and all of the others start with the episode title and no series opening where the music plays and the regulars are shown. I don't understand why they did this. The show opening does play in a continuous loop (without the text) on the main page.

Still, in spite of the careless manner in which these sets were produced, they are definitely worth having if you are a fan of the show.

I know, I would love to own the series but I can't afford to spend roughly $80 per season! From what I hear, the DVDs aren't in that great quality anyway?

8yrs later and they still about $40 a season. I managed to snag the first two seasons for about $20 each on a sale at Christanbook.com but still haven't seen the rest of the seasons lower their price or go on sale.

I finally found where you can buy DVD seasons of Avonlea. Dimple Records can order you new seasons on DVD. They go for around $44 to $50 per season. Very expensive but worth it. My husband bought me season 3. :)
