I always thought this was a Ferris Beuller Spin off

Any body else?

Me tooo! I though I was the only one.

They must have both come out at that same time. I could look it up but *beep* that

"Parker Lewis " was "inspired" by the Ferris Beuller movie that came out 3 years earlier. The Ferris Beuller TV show premiered at the same time as Parker Lewis (Fall, 1990), but lasted only 13 weeks. It was pretty bad, deserved to die.

I remember catching this in the 90s and actually ran into a few of the actors at a fair after the show ended. Just started watching season 1 and Ferris Beuller popped up in my head too. Don't think it did back then though. Fuuny too, Ferris is below this in the list of recommendations!

Ferris Bueller was always ribbed during the Parker Lewis series too. At the end of one episode "Ferris" has a cameo spying in on Parker.

of course it was, hell his girlfriend's last name was Sloane

I think that was the idea, this show was a cash-in of the movie. There was also a TV show called Ferris Bueller (with Jennifer Aniston).

Ferris Beuller is another that didn't age well at all, used to be one my favorite movies when I was 10 or 12 and my parents loved it too, today he just seems so obnoxious, it's hard to like him now.

Finally got around to watching Ferris Bueller recently, a disappointment. Just had to be there I guess. Plus I'm too old. But still enjoy Parker.

reply

The difference between the two is that Ferris was set up so that he could never lose, get caught, or learn any lessons because he had "it" all together like Zack on Saved by the Bell.

The writers on Parker Lewis made Parker a more likeable guy who didnt always get away with his schemes(despite the "Can't Lose" of the title) and he wasnt as self-serving as Ferris.

"You win some, you lose some. But you live, you live to fight another day."

Liked it then and now.

And you gave her a land mine? Really?
Well, it seemed appropriate at the time.

I use to love this show as a kid & had forgotten the title since then. I only knew/remembered it as Ferris Bueller tv type show, until someone reminded me the title a day ago. So I guess it's not just you.

I am sure it was pitched like that. You know what I mean? When producers pitch a show to a network they reference other tv shows movies etc... for example when producers pitched Breaking Bad to AMC they said 'Mr Chips meets Scarface' So yeah maybe FB was referenced in the pitch

reply

I'm sure it was pitched with a "It's like Ferris Bueller" but also the very first episode has quite a few references to Ferris from Soundeffects to dialogues. It's extremely obvious.
