Holds up amazingly well

I had this disc (the first one, with the pilot and three other episodes) on my Netflix queue forever, but it was always "Very Long Wait". It finally became available, and I watched the first two episodes this weekend. I hadn't watched the show in over twenty years, and I thought it was going to pale next to the quality of TV available in the 21st century. But that second episode especially was so brilliantly written and acted, I was blown away. It's a real shame this isn't streaming so new generations could discover it.

I agree wholeheartedly! I own the DVDs up to season four and I still love watching them. I am just finishing the Thanksgiving episode in season four, in fact. I came online to find out if the day of the dead is an actual, celebrated thing among First Nations in Alaska when I came upon your comment. Had to respond. ;)

reply

Well, do they still celebrate Day of the Dead?
Yes NX has a timeless feel to it. You put these characters in a decade in they'd fit right in(or wouldn't fit in, pertaining to your point of view).

I was a college/university student in the 90's and employed. My only obscure memories of the time, beyond school and work was the OJ trial.

I discovered NE accidentally on a cable channel four years ago. Have no fear, this series has legs ... :)

...and breasts! Evidenced by Shelly and Maggie. Boo-yeah!
Sorry, I went totally guy on you, I couldn't help myself.
Forgive?

Ha! It works.

I find myself finding the guy relationships the most enjoyable, (with or without the legs, breasts or hairy chests), Chris/Bernard, Joel/Adam, Maurice/Chris.

We are watching DVDS and up to season 3. LOVE LOVE LOVE this show, so far it hasn't taken that fatal turn for the worse that I think starts when Anthony Edwards comes along. A newbie is watching, enchanted, along with me, I hope he doesn't get too turned off when Rob Morrow leaves, lol.... I do notice when there is some generic music in the background, when there is supposed to be an actual song, but try not to mind too much.

On Election Day I am going to show my students "Democracy in America," Episode 15, Season 3, so they can see what life in America was like before the fascist onslaught of demagogue Donald Trump, when people could have honest differences without vicious, demeaning name calling and the denigration of women and people of color. .

reply

Pure projection. It's leftists who have inflicted fascist hate, division, woke lunacy, and cancel culture on America. Your students needed a better teacher. I hope they eventually got one.
