Seriously, why even call it Maniac Mansion!?

I mean, I understand that this show was good, but why the hell did they call it Maniac Mansion and include characters like Fred and Ed Edison? Seems stupid. I remember being obsessed with the NES version of this game and when I heard there was a TV show I freaked out. Then I saw the show...WTF?!

Seriously, a show that was actually based on the game would have been interesting and very funny. I only watched one episode of this a long time ago, can anyone who has seen a lot of episodes tell me if they EVER alluded to the game's plot points (ie, the meteor, Dave, Sandy and his friends, the hamster even?!)?

reply

Kind of. There was one episode with a meteor in the basement that was wanting to kill the family. The good Doctor fought with it.

I read somewhere that the show supposedly takes place about twenty years after the game, and that the Fred Edison in the show is the son of Weird Ed...which, I guess is a somewhat poor tie. I guess the show was just trying to cash in on the game's popularity. But I personally didn't care; I thought it was an excellent show, regardless of it's lack of resemblence to the original game.

Same thing with 'Day of the Tentacle': it was rather a departure from the original 'Maniac Mansion', but it's still one of the greatest games I've ever played.

In one of the episodes, somebody refers to the Edisons' house as a "maniac mansion".

Maybe that's the connection?

Seriously, it's supposed to be based on some sort of computer game from the late eighties called Maniac Mansion.

If youve never played the game, I STRONGLY reccomend playing it. Theres all kinds of emulators for it on the net and its on the NES system too.

No No No!!

Do NOT play the NES version. The original writers of the game even say don't play it! Want proof? Okay, here it is:

Play Manaic Mansion either on a Commodore 64 or an Amiga for the best true Maniac Maniac mansion experience. Hell, if you want to play it on a modern system, here is a link to "Maniac Mansion Deluxe:"

Maniac Mansion Deluxe was programmed around 2004, so it might be a little funky on Windows7. I had to do "setup" and change the resolution to 640x480. Windows 7 for some reason doesn't allow 320x200 which is the default resolution.
