I just got this on DVD for Region 1 players. It's a two-disc set (4 episodes, 230 minutes runtime) with loads of extras (interviews with Julie T. Wallace, the author, etc.).
Now if I can just find 1) "Mother Love" with Diana Rigg for Region 1 — it's only available for R 2 now -- and 2) "The Lost Language of Cranes" the original full-length BBC version; the American version was cut when it aired on PBS.

Greg, Please tell where you got your DVD of this GREAT movie & the cost. Also what are the differences in DVD1 and a DVD with no numeral. I have yet to buy a DVD player -but would if I could get this show. I'd pay for a VHS tape set if that were available. I'd sure like to see it once before I die. I'm OLD Now and fading fast!!!! shareNoticed you enquired regarding the difference between DVD1 and DVD with no numeral. DVDs are annoyingly regionalized per region to stop people buying films in one country where they may not have been released in another country. so DVD region 1 will work in USA/CANADA and will be coded in NTSC - i.e. american standard. DVD 0 will work in any region in the world - but check if its NTSC coded or PAL coded as, if you are in the States you will probably find that your TV will only accept NTSC signals. However, its possible to get hacked DVD players that will play any region at all and also TVs that will play back both types of signal - in Europe its very common for modern TVs to play back both types of signal - but I believe its not so common in the States.

I finally have a Region 1 DVD of "Mother Love." I also have a region 1 DVD of "Lives and Love of a She Devil."
