shareThe woman just abandoned the hamster. In her own way she was just as selfish as her husband. I disliked both of them.
shareIn the book, she forgets about the guinea pig because it had never shown her any affection. The dog and cat, on the other hand, had...at least to a degree.
It makes dramatic sense to leave the ungrateful pet behind.
