Connection to the new show?

Just wondering if someone can tell me if there actually is a narrative connection between this and the new show. I'm very familiar with this one (the 90s show) and I got board pretty quick with the new one. It's very sappy and irritating. I did however watch a few episodes that seemed to have references to the superior 90s show. So many in fact that I'm wondering if the writers actually were clever enough to link the two shows in a kind of parallel universe / time travel kind of way or if it's all just a "wink wink" to the older series. Let me know if there's a tangible link, because then I actually might watch more of the new one.

They're hinting at it. In a recent episode, the Flash is running through time and sees "visions" of other Earths, one of the visions is the flash from the original series. I'd say that it will cross over eventually in one way or another.

That would be amazing.

as noted since the Introduction of the Multiverse... Flash 90 has been established as an Alternate Earth to the 'earth 1' of the Flash/Arrow shows

beyond that Easter eggs have included

Amanda Pays as Tina McGee
Mark Hamill as Trickster #1
Vito d'Ambrosio as Bellows (officer in '90 Mayor in '14)
and of course, Shipp, who played Barry in 90. is now Henry in '14

I forget if they gave Henry a Middle names in Flash '14, but save for Barry '90 dating an Iris West in the Pilot... it wouldn't take much to say he was 'Henry Bartholomew Allen' in Flash '90, and went by Barry to avoid being "Junior"... and that the Flash '90 Timeline diverged with 'Shipp' getting the Speed Force and having his adventures as shown in this show... while in Flash '14s history the Lightning missed the lab, Barry led a normal Life, left forensics, went into Medicine/Research and found Nora and settled down to eventually have Barry '14
- Gustin was born in 1990... and Young Barry was played by a 10 year old in scenes set in 2000/14 years prior to events of the Pilot)

so if we ball park Barry as being Gustin's age minus a few years... and assume the events of Flash '90 was an anachronistic 1980s (much like Gotham has a Vague 2000s feel) the timing almost works too...

The only problem with that is that Barry's (90's) mother was called Nora, it would be stretching to have 90's Barry marry a Nora when his Mother is called that and then go on to have a son who he called Henry after his father and I'm already confusing myself.... otherwise a good hypothesis.

In the season two final JWS is Jay Garrick of Earth 3. So he is playing the flash for the second time.

Let's not forget Alex Desert as Julio. Two versions of him have shown up on the new series.

Also the original Prank has shown up as well.
