If Alex hadn't left . . .

Probably the biggest "if" in the whole series, but do you think Alex would have turned out to be a lesbian, in the same way Helen did? Or would her personal life have taken a different turn?

reply

You know, I never thought of that. I wonder! She did have a complicated private life... she may have ended up being a lesbian!

Lesbian – no way! Alex revelled in (and was often teased about) toyboys

Sally: Alex, your latest toyboy called. I didn't catch what he said – I think he still had his dummy in his mouth.

Or one of my favourites:

Dave: Alex, you're an experienced cradlesnatcher - what do you think of Sally's technique?

:P

What a stupid question.

Just because Alex and Helen had the same job, you'd assume that their characters, and therefore their sexual preferences, would be the same?

Psychologists call that 'Transferrance'.

These aren't real people we're judging, Lovedawn, thess are fictional characters – born of the same writers' imaginations to drive the same kind of plot lines. If Alex had stayed, it's reasonably likely that they would have taken her strong-female-assistant-editor in the same direction that they took her replacement, strong-female-assistant-editor Helen.

Real people are infinitely complicated; sit-com characters are modeled from a few sentences on a piece of paper to serve a comedic purpose.

By the way, you meant "psychoanalysts" and "transference" and you were still wrong.

It's taken you 4 years to serve up that smart-a$$ reply to a post which wasn't serious to begin with. What a rich, full life you must lead.
