Most fanciable cast member?

I'm tied on this one between Susannah Doyle, Ingrid Lacey and Neil Pearson...

Anyone else got any thoughts?

Definately Susannah Doyle.

I always fancied Joy, even though she's 18 years older than me...

I had the hugest crush on Damien Day, but then I really like the actor who played him, Stephen Tompkinson, so maybe that makes sense......

reply

HAYDN GWYNNE in huge, capitalised, italicised letters of flame

reply

Oh my god, totally damien day. He's gorgeous. and so funny. but gorgeous too.

reply

Joy, joy, joy in the gladiator costume, the cocktail dress and that jumper at the end of series 5 ooh that takes some beating. Its those eyes. Also her hair, face, voice, belly, legs, bottom and those eyes again.

That said I do think it's the sexiest cast of a british sitcom ever. I mean compare say Only Fools and Horses or 15 Storeys High to Friends or Sex and the City.

reply

Yep, Susannah Doyle definitely.
Would also settle for Ingrid Lacey (she was the blond producer, right?)

And she swore quite a bit, and posh Englishwomen swearing is the greatest sound ever recorded.

reply

You are all quite mad. Most definately Neil Pearson AKA Dave Charnley. Damien was cool and funny but Dave was charming... although a bit of a player ;)

The real question is : Who(in your opinion) Is the funniest?

'Stranger than you dreamt it.'

I have to agree. Neil Pearson does it for me everytime, even tho he is 20 years older than me!!! they are reshowing one of teh series on paramount at the moment, and tonight they showed the one with Dave and Henry do the Chippendales impression!!! funniest thing i have seen in a long time - i actually wept! and god did Neil Pearson look sexy in those chaps. will have to start watching Between the Lines i think!

As for the funniest...hmmm thats a bit harder. im not sure i can pick anyone out as the funniest! maybe stephen tomkinson - the damien day character is fantastic. but then so are the others!

oh well will leave it like that!

reply

sgotta be Susannah Doyle

reply

Joy, easily the most fanciable.

As for funniest, I'd vote Henry because when he really went off on one... those rants were magnificent.

Because they're young. Young! YOUNG!!!

I agree. But Joy was so scary, you'd never do more than look furtively!

reply

Susanna Doyle... mmmmmmm Joy...

Asps... very dangerous... you go first!

reply

Susannah Doyle.

reply

Susannah Doyle (went to school with a girl like her), Haydn Gwynn (had a teacher like her) and (timpany) Victoria Wick (there always should to be somebody who's out of reach).

BTW, what is Susannah Doyle doing these days. Haven't seen her on the small screen since Inspector Frost (never saw Ballykissangel with her)

Bally-K? I didn't think she ever appeared in that. Her late father Tony Doyle was one of the leads . . .

reply

Dave, defifnitely.

Agh... I just went and looked up the actress' name on the episode guide and in the last thirty seconds I've forgotten it. It's Eleanor something, but she was quite delicious. But I always had a crush on Dave...

Judging from the interviews on the DVDs (which are really funny, for those who haven't watched the special features yet), the cast are all looking great - Ingrid Lacey looks wonderful with dark hair. And it's weird to see Jeff Rawle with longish hair, looking all tousled and rakish... George has been and done and gone all sexy.

Funniest little anecdote from the interviews: Ingrid Lacey discussing how she dealt with fan attention when the show was on. People - especially women - would come up to her and she'd be flattered that they recognised her, but then would get a little put out when all they wanted to talk about was what it was like kissing Neil Pearson. She handled it in her own way by telling them, "Oh, he's lovely, but he's gay".

EDITED TO ADD: Eleanor David, http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0202870/

Why'd you say Burma? "I panicked."

My pleasure!

I hate quotations. Tell me what you know.

Susannah Doyle was gorgeous as Joy, and I think Henry was the funniest by some margin. His rant against the Chris Evans alike TV show host in the last series was inspired.

reply

Watched the Connections thingy too and Series 1 just arrived today in work so I can relive my youth :)

And definitely has to be Joy .. slurp :)

reply

Alex was lovely in the first two series, then Joy took over her mantle.

Obviously it's a bit dodgy because of her age, but George's daughter was hot as well (I was only 15 when it started!!!!)

reply

Dave for the lads, Joy for the lasses... My mum used to fancy Gus (bleurgh)...

reply

he he he. Watching 'Lady Merchant' in series three I might have to agree with your mum, when Gus comes out with his dressing gown on we were all screaming "no! no! don't take it off!!" and when he did we were silent *shock* *amazement* *etc*... well, until Carolyn said "It looks like his head's photoshopped onto his body!!"
And what a body!

reply

What exactly is wrong with Robert Duncan (Gus)? I developed a HUGE crush on him when I was just fifteen or sixteen-years-old. My Mum and I had been living down south, and we went to a pantomime at the Churchill theatre in Bromley (Kent). Robert had been playing the baddie, and I thought he was the most handsome man I'd ever seen. I said to my Mum that I had to meet him, so about a year or two later (after we had moved back home to Scotland), I did. We headed south-of-the-border again to see him in another pantomime in Richmond. We asked the theatre if we could meet him before the show, so they said they would go and get him. He came through and he was an absolute sweetie. My Mum was rather taken by him as well. He signed some things for me, and spoke to us for about twenty-minutes. He also wrote down our names on a piece of paper, and we wondered why he did so. All was reveled at the end of the show. He had our names read out on stage and asked for a round of applause for the fact that we had travelled all the way from Scotland to see him. That made our trip more than worth it. We continued to go and see him for several years. Over that time, he took us out for multiple coffees, phoned us, gave us lifts (we gave him one too when he was in Edinburgh), and even had us out to lunch with him and his partner. Unfortunately, for some reason that escapes me, we stopped communicating, and seeing him on stage. It's probably been something like eight-years since we last saw him. After reacquainting myself with DtDD a few days ago, I realised just how much I have missed him. I might write to Robert one of these days to see what he's up to, and to hopefully meet-up again. Some actors do not give their fans the time of day, but he went the extra mile, time and time again for us.

So, I will be saying that Robert Duncan was the most fanciable cast member. Not just because he is extremely handsome, but that he is also a wonderfully kind and lovely person.

CavalorCumano - that's a really nice story, thanks for sharing. On the DVD you get some cast interviews and Robert appears with the guy who played George - he came across there as very nice with a good personality, unlike Gus!

Thank you very much for your reply, PoppyTansfussion. I really wanted to share my story and am glad you enjoyed it. Thank you too for telling me about the DVDs. I will definitely be getting them.

I have uploaded some photos of Robert with my Mum, and me. I'll be adding more, so please keep checking back. Here's a link to my album: http://www.flickr.com/photos/67577815@N04/

Mirror, mirror on the wall, Who is the sexiest of them all? In his bunny cardigan of course, none can beat that gorgeous George! (ever seen someone carry that look off so well before?)

reply

Joy, oh Joy!

reply

Neil for me too. I think the man's gorgeous. Always have. Mind you, i've always had a strange attraction to Dave-like-men in real life so perhaps it's more the character he plays...? Although "Between The Lines", "Booze Cruise", "Trance", "The Kindness of Strangers"...nope, definately Neil :p

Has to be Joy

Alex a close 2nd. Helen only if it was dark, and she was drunk.

Sally? NEVER!!!

I'm a bloke - sue me.

(Actually, I quite liked the blond PA from series 1. She also appeared in Men Behaving Badly)

heheheheheeheeheeheheeheeeheeehheeee

reply

Who played Georges' daughter. I was young at the time and i seem to remember she was cute. Of course Joy was hot and frightening. Think i fancied Sally too, but i was going through pubity and the wind only had to change. The blonde one, Ingrid? I fancied her too.

reply

Tied between Alex and Joy (now THERE's a scenario I might dream about). Victoria Wicks very pretty (what did they do to her for Series Five to make her look so fragile?) but Sally insufferable. Helen very pretty, as was her girlfriend Amanda (especially in those leathers...).

There was a woman from 'the Manchester office' who tempted Dave away from an almost-stable relationship in one episode who was decidedly 'kable.

Sometimes dreaming is all us Dirty Old Men can do...

reply

I loved George - I just wanted to hug him all the time (it was the cardigan that did it!)

I also loved Gus - yes, sad I know.

reply

I was six when I started watching this show and even then it was only a few episodes, so women were not a high priority yet. However 14 years later when I rewatched them all on DVD I would have to say Joy by far, although I did find George's daughter kind of cute.

reply

Joy. She's addictive.
