Funniest moments of The Crystal Maze

There were two funny moments on The Crystal Maze i thought was funny. 1) In one of the gameshows, one of the contestants falls into the water, and the look on Richard's face when says "Oh! Dear, he just fell into the water" and 2) at the end of each episode of The Crystal Maze, the way Richard says "Bye" to the auidence.

I think it'as funny when richard plays the harmonica when the contestants are doing a task

reply

The bits where Richard tries to help the contestants when they've obviously sent someone really stupid into the game who has no idea what they're doing. From the first one I saw from FTN:

Contestant: (clue says something like 'Look three down and fifteen across) "Where do I go?"
Richard: "Is something numbered?"
Contestant goes to some numbered cubby-holes.
Contestant: "There's nothing here!"
Richard: "Is anything else numbered?" (Basically saying 'look elsewhere, you dozy mare')
Contestant: "No!"
Richard gives a look to camera saying 'That's the last time I try and help'.

Eventually the woman comes out having failed to get the safe containing the crystal open in time.
Contestant: "I nearly had it open!"
Richard: "You should have been a bit quicker then!"

reply

There was an episode on the other day when a man was in the maze of mirrors. He reached the crystal but thinking it was behind a pane of glass didn't pick it up. The team, believing he'd got it, scream at him to come back. He comes out.

Captain: Have you got it?
Man: ...No

What an idiot.

reply

When a man in an Aztec game won the crystal, but couldn't get it out of the little box it was being stored in. After the man panicked and whinged for about 15 seconds, Richard went "Oh for goodness sake, move out of the way - I'll get it!", ran into the gameroom, pushed the man aside roughly and retrieved the crystal immediately, rolling his eyes all the way.

Also the little looks of satisfaction and glee when Richard could lock people into the rooms. And of course the random harmonica playing.

When Richard was in medieval zone, and said "I went to see a doctor the other day and told him I thought I was schitzophrenic. He said that makes 4 of us."

There was this one game i just found hilarious because a team member kept shouting "John! Down a bit! Down a bit, John!" over and over. It was wrong the first time she said it but she just kept saying it. i lmao.

Saw this on ftn the other day...

At the start of the show, they all come to the entrance of Industrial zone, and there's a locked gate.
Contestants: "Ooh let's climb over it!"
Reckless Rick "..."
ALL contestants climb over the gate that has barbed wire at the top. Once the last member has jumped down, Richard produces a key, lets himself through and says "I don't know why you bothered with that, I had the key..."

No, I don't want that, I want you to put on your hat!!

reply

Richard turning to camera, saying;
"now for our Japanese viewers...hwayeoooorr oohhyarhh" (making other mock-Japanese phrases and stupid noises)

The bloke who had to wire the bell and got the crystal, spent 10 seconds looking for it and then couldnt grab the thing out of the case so got locked in.

Mumsey getting angry a couple of weeks ago when a contestant won the crystal but snatched it out of her Crystal Ball before Mumsey took it out. She just leaned and grabbed. Really rude!

"Dunno why you are buying them out. They didn't do well, did they?!"

"NO, DON'T SAY THERE IS PLENTY OF TIME!!! THERE IS NEVER PLENTY OF TIME!!!"

I wonder if anyone got locked in with mumsie or anutie sabrina

reply

The look on Rick's face when a group of idiots who, even with only two crystals left, insisted on buying out the latest lock-in just as they went to the Dome.
As they went in with all of their 5 seconds he said "I won't wish you good
luck, there's no point". 10 gold and 14 silver credits later Rick hands out the Crystals saying "You don't have to let anyone see this, there could be a power cut that night". Glorious Shadenfreude to the end. Thanks Richard.

Reckless Rick "You haven't got plenty of time left!"
and at the start of one episode he said "hi, ribble ricky here." it was probrably a script error or something...

God, I remember the first time I saw that I couldn't stop laughing. Richard O'Brien owns!

That was Episode 8 I think. That was the stupid guy who couldn't work out the algebra type puzzle with the lorry/crane etc representing numbers. Wasn't he the computer programmer from Edinburgh. If so, I hope he didn't write mission critical programs :)

The best waterspash is the one seen in the opening credits where the girl is in the Aztec zone in the rotating pole game. She comes down, cracks her hip on the log then goes arse over tit into the water, soaking the crystal, losing the game and giving us a good laugh. She got locked in to boot!

Yeah, I laughed and laughed at that one — unkind of me, but it was very funny. Not least because it was about the fourth time she'd gone into the water. I worried that she'd hurt her hip, though.

You might very well think that. I couldn't possibly comment.

Saw that one the other day. The Crystal was right in front of him and he ignored it coming back out with a whole 50 seconds left. All the team (including ETP) thought he had it and he didn't. Didn't know who was the thickest. The bloke in the game, ETP or the rest of the team!!!

all of richards stories about Mumsie and her love affairs crack me up every time

ALL of Richard's asides to the camera and stories were great! Two lines in particular crack me up whenever I see the particular episodes-- Richard, in utter shock, "Great Caesar's underpants!" and outside the 'dragon's lair in the med. zone. "Last night at 2 am we heard a noise-- Mumsie and I came out of our rooms and she said, 'dragon up again' and I yes, 'yes, but what was that noise?'"

wELL, This wasn't exactly funny, but sort of sweet that Richard did it, especially since he had such a reputation for ribbing the contestants...

In the Medieval zone, there was a cage type maze with sliding doors that involved getting this big round crystal cage through to the key, and then you had to open up the lock using the key to release the crystal. The contestant made it through the maze, unlocked the giant box, but the crystal fell down near the door, and with the smoke all around, he fumbled and couldnt find it. This team was REALLY doing badly too, and I think this was the last or secondlast game. Finally he gives up, and runs out with about a few seconds to spare. We then see Rick's gloved hand reach into the room, retrieve the crystal, and then turn to look at the team with utter faux shock, and say something like "oh dear, ...it just ROLLED over the ledge and popped out, here it is!" or something like that.

I thought it was such a sweet and funny moment for him, and rather out of character too, which made it all the more endearing.

I remember that one - the guy was looking directly where it had dropped down and it was right beside him in the doorway!

Reminds me of the episode where that woman won the buzzwire game and couldn't find the crystal. Richard had to go in and get it out of the box in the wall.

This clip here deserves a mention - it's a guy playing that game where you had to hit the targets with a crossbow.

Was watching it today and they were doing the Future Zone with the Maze and they were shouting at him where to go, back and forth then there's a 4 second pause as he's sitting outside the door and utters "I got the Crystal!" thought that was hilarious to show how aware everyone was!

reply

I saw one where a guy was doing the speech cards game and every time he put a card through it produced gibberish because he wasn't doing it right. Ed and the rest of the team couldn't stop laughing!

It's on YouTube here:

Richard: (referring to a large pit of bubbling chemicals in the industrial zone) "Never mind the jacuzzi over there, that's for me later."

Richard: (referring to the game from season one, where you have to remove the cover from a large clock to access the crystal, by unscrewing it anticlockwise) "What's significant about the clock? - that's a clue." (it's going anticlockwise)
Contestant: The clock's going the right way. *realizes his mistake* Well, it's going the right way, in reverse.
Richard: (mockingly) "It's going the right way... in reverse..."

I love the way that contestants run inside and immediatley start listing off all of the items that are in the room to the rest of the group instead of just getting on with it. I remember one time a contestant ran in and said "Right... I'm in a room....and..." - 'I'm in a room?' no kidding.

Another task I remember was in the Aztec zone, and they were supposed to use a shovel to put sand in a bucket to weigh down a seasaw, so that they could then walk up the seasaw to collect the crystal which was up on a high shelf. The contestant that went in with their mullet and shoudler pads scrambled about and did not grasp what they had to do. Then with less than 30 seconds to go and they hadn't put any sand into the box, they saw the crystal on the high shelf. Instead of starting the game as they should, they just used the shovel to knock the crystal down and got out. Suprisingly they were allowed to keep it.

I was never to happy about Ed Tudor Pole either, I could never stomach his episodes, he was no Richard.

reply

Once, scampering about in the Aztec Zone Richard fell over, and it wasn't a dignified fall. It was more of a 'I'm going to fall. Saved myself - hooray! Oops, no I haven't, down I go' prolonged stumble type affair. But he carried on and started a contestent off on their task. As they were doing whatever needs to be done for a crystal he stared straight into the camera and in a broad Welsh accent said:

'Well quite frankly I 'urt myself.' Huge pause. Then drops voice an octive. 'My name's O'Brian.'

So very random, and when you're watching it, so very funny.

reply

Aww when Richard smiles at the camara and says bye aww I go weak at the knees :-) he's gorgeous :-D

T: What's your position?
P: upright, head turned slightly to the left.
T: Why do I bother??!!

reply

I seem to remember the suit of armor, in medieval was funny once, when it moved and Richard was wondering what was going on.
All while a game was being played. THEN as we think they crew has moved on from it, I recall Richard looking at the armor and still wondering what's going on... I rewound that several times to watch lol.
