Can someone explain why people find it weird/strange when characters from Cop Rock break into song & dance yet have no problem when it happens in other musicals?
When it comes to bad writing, bad acting, no one does it like the 'SyFy' channel.

Did you ever see Cop Rock? The singing and dancing seemed to come out of nowhere. There was no lead into a song - just sudden cavorting around and singing. What I remember was just awkward and unexpected. I remember thinking that it was like an SNL sketch or a TV commercial. I don't recall the songs or the dancing as being very good quality, either.
I like movies musicals, too but Cop Rock lacked finesse.
