Lincoln pardoning story.

There's a story I once heard about Lincoln takoing an evening stroll. He meets a young boy who's run away from home cause he's angry at his family. Lincoln persuades the kid to go back home.

When the kid arrives back home he's told that his elder brother has been found guilty of sleeping on duty and is to be shot. The kid runs to Lincoln's office, and asks him to give his older brother a reprieve. Lincoln does so.

Cute story, I know. But does anyone know if it has any basis in fact, or where it originated from?

Education is what's left when you forget what you were taught.
