I just read that Shelby Foote has passed away at the age of 88.
The last words of Gen. Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson seem appropriate:
"Let us cross over the river, and rest beneath the shade of the trees."

My youngest daughter is watching the series in preparation for taking US History in high school next year and he's easily the most interesting person involved in it for us. I hope all of his fans are still celebrating a life well lived.
