Song: "Lorena"

.
Burns uses this song a lot as background music in some of the mid-to-late episodes (and mentions in an early episode that it was particularly loved by both sides of the conflict).

It has a very appealing melody. I found a YouTube with the words clearly audible, if anyone wants to listen to it:

I love the story about the coronet player in Atlanta "who played so beautifully, that both sides would stop to listen." It's a beautiful, very touching song.

It's interesting that the German song "Lili Marlene" was probably the most popular song from WW2 for both sides. I guess music can transcend all differences if it's message touches the heart.

Yes, music can touch the heart, can't it, and make soldiers nostalgic, especially if the tune is sweet and sympathetic and the lyrics are about an appealing woman.
