The Paper Weight
Why did the paper weight effect Jamie in such a bad way? Also Robert was quite shocked when he heard he had a paper weight.

It could be that the reason Jamie chose Colin as beneficiary of his shares was that Colin just happened to have gifted Jamie with the paperweight on his birthday. Robert was shocked that this may have been all it took for Colin to gain Jamie's favour and that quite possibly in Jamie's dissociated mind the shares and the paperweight were somehow equivalent.
