Eligible Bachelor spoilers needed

If you haven't seen it yet, part of me wants to let you find out for yourself. But basically, Lord St. Simon's new bride was running off of her own volition to rejoin a previous American lover she thought was dead. Her father hadn't approved of their match. Meanwhile, Lord St. Simon turns out to be a dangerous and manipulative man who marries women serially for their money. He had his first wife murdered in France and his second wife (the veiled lady's sister) committed. But when the law wouldn't allow him to keep a sane woman locked up, he imprisoned her on his own estate. The hag creature in Holmes' nightmare strongly resembles the imprisoned wife, after she has spent years years in captivity underneath an outpost on the estate. Does that clarify everything?
