IMDb says “Due to financial reasons, Luke Perry decided to return to 90210.” Was “financial reasons” referring to Luke?

... or the series? Was Luke running low on cash, or was the series in financial crisis due to low ratings, thus Luke’s return?

I would say that refers to Luke, although I'm sure the producers were more than happy to have their biggest star back.

Who knows if that´s even true. I remember the IMDB trivia section not being moderated very well and people would just put up stupid and unnecessary trivia, particularly on the Friends board.

I think he was banking on a film career and when that failed he returned so I'd say it was his money problems.

It was probably the series too. The people who came in after were never really as big. Fox wanted to keep it on the air for a couple of more seasons and he did not cause any fights, did the work so they welcomed him backl.
