I love this movie -- the animation style, the noirish story, the gratuitous sex and violence...any suggestions of similar movies from around this time period? I'm gonna watch Demon City Shinjuku next, and am currently seeking out Goku Midnight Eye.
shareFirst time I watched it I was a teenager & was curious about the animation sex & violence scenes. Now that I watched it again, I began to appreciate the story theme about realms of human and demon. I'm not into occult but this kind of "h.p. lovecraft" universe is a great subject for this kind of adult / mature sci-fi.
Definitely deserves its own genre - Monster Sci-Fi?!

I love Demon City Shinjuku.
Wicked City is definitely old school anime. I put up there with Demon City, Vampire Hunter D, Blood Reign, and Ninja Scroll in terms of violence and atmosphere.
Straightedge means I'm better than you.
Just hunt down all the other films by the guys who did Wicked City ... it's all at a similar level. Goku, Ninja Scroll, Cyber City 808, etcetera.
IMO, there isn't much from that era with a comparable tone and style. It's classic anime stuff.
