Only interested in Mattie

I know this is based on a book. But there was too much time vested in Mattie's life for us to care about the other women of Brewster Place. Even Cielle would've been more intersting because we knew her as a child. Does it ever say what became of her?

It was sad that we never saw her come to terms with all the heartache from her past dealing with her father, Basil and Basil's father. There's should've been a point where she just let it all out and had a damn, damn, damn moment. Nobody can just roll over and keep that stuff bottled up inside. I guess the final scene with the wall indirectly helped her. But I just didn't care about the other tenants issues like Mattie. There just wasn't must achievement for her as an old woman for all that she went through.

I agree that more time should have been vested in the other tenants.

The book delves more but some of the 'resolutions' of the characters are maddening.
They're either stupid or not answered.

The sequel to the book, while not a great read, adds more to the story...AND reveals what happens with Basil!

While Mattie went through a lot, much of it was her own doing. She got pregnant with Basil with a frivolous young man. She SPOILED that child rotten, she was not a good parent.
She never should have put up her own home for that terrible man. I wouldn't.

She made her own choices.

That's true, much of this was Mattie's own doing.
I guess what pissed me off is that she never learns from her previous mistakes in order to do better for herself or Basil. I do know about the next book with Basil. Someone else mentioned on another thread.

Not to mention she apparently has NO other men in her life after Butch?!
She has sex once in her entire life?!

Just sayin'.

Right! That's what I was thinking. She apparantly did not have any other love interests? I never read the book, but it seems as if she neglected her own life and sacrificed everything she had for her manipulative son. What a dumb broad. Watching this movie infuriates me sometimes.

I was told in another post that there's a book called "the men of Brewster place" that tells about what happens to Basil after he jumps bail. Something about years later after Mattie dies he comes to Brewster Place to look for her, but she's already gone and he has a family or something.
