I have a DVD recorder, so I'm going to try to record it from the videotape. I don't know if I'd want to send out copies of it because that would be a case of copyright infringement.

I read a twenty year anniversary is due out next year in 2009 by LionsGate. It seems alot of people do want this movie and because it's now out of print and only available on VHS it will be released and have many features as well as documentaries. I just hope LionsGate don't hit a strike on us.

I think there's enough of a fanbase that there should be a DVD release. Strangely 3 of my favorite films: Wired, SubUrbia & Angus are all only available on VHS. WTF? And another Chiklis film, The Three Stooges, is also only available if you tape it off TV. Four movies I love, and the only reason why I still need a VCR. Does anyone know if Wired is available somewhere to download? I would love to try to re-cut the film taking out the "Christmas Carol" plotline with Angel and seeing if the film works better without it. I've been wanting to do the same with "Last Action Hero" taking out the goofier sections of it, cause I think with some tweaking it could be turned into a pretty decent action/comedy. Only movie I've seen where I was more into the film-within-the film then actual movie.

The movie probably would have worked better had the whole "Belushi's ghost reminiscing about his life with a Puerto Rican angel" angle just been dropped, and the film plot was a straight, linear, chronological progression of Belushi's life. There was a potential there for something a bit more than what ended up onscreen, but virtually every scene that Belushi's ghost was in (be it the autopsy, sitting on a plane in a body bag, etc.) just came off as really tacky.
Would normally say it'd be a long shot to see this get a dvd release, but in the past couple of years there have been a dozen or so older very minor "cult" films like this that made it to a dvd upgrade, so one never knows.

On 8/12/10 I wrote Lionsgate to ask if Wired was going to be released on DVD. They responded "There is no current information on releasing that title at this time".

As far as I know, this film was released once in VHS (1989-90), and now it's out of print. I've looked for this film in DVD, for years, and never found a genuine copy, not even from over seas. I think it maybe available for On-line Streaming thru Netflix or Amazon (not 100% sure), but as far as a DVD or BLU-RAY disc...that may not happen anytime soon. Sad really, considering how many crappy garbage films get released in DVD/Blu-Ray these days

I know youtube didn't exist when you originally asked this, but the whole film is on there now.

reply

Never. It doesn't even have a blu-ray release.
