DVD release please!!

What a great neglected film. Caught it on TV at about 3am several years ago - Is it too much to ask that with Colin Firth and Peter O'Toole it stands a chance of re-release at some point?
Anyone out there visiting this who agrees, leave a comment. Perhaps if there's enough of us, some canny distributor will snap up the rights...

reply

I absolutely agree!!

This movie is little known and therein lies its problem. Re-releasing it is never going to be a goldmine but if someone would just give it a chance, I'm sure there's a market for it among movie enthusiasts, critics, or just people who are interested in films with depth and good acting.
(And as a Dutchman, I'd like this beautiful Dutch production to be seen by as many people as possible, ofcourse!)

reply

I'm Dutch too and incredibly proud (and chauvinist ;)) that this film has been produced by two of our cinema celebrities Dick Maas and Laurens Geels. A great story, fantastic acting by the entire cast, and a very special artistic cinematography. But indeed more of an art cinema movie than one that ever could have been a blockbuster.

It is indeed amazing that this film isn't on DVD yet, this would be an instand buy for me, I do have the original VHS tape. Let's hope a distributor is kind enough to give this film a chance!

Indeed a great film! I've already been waiting for several years for it to come out on dvd but I doubt it ever will. Also can anyone tell me were to get a cd release of the original soundtrack? I absolutely love the song by Marie Trintignant!

I am dying to get this movie on something better than a crappy VHS. In the US the copyright holders are Paramount. I am thinking why not create a petition (like ones at www.petitiononline.com) and submit it to the company. May be they'll listen. I admit the fact that I am fascinated by this film since the day I first watched it, almost 12 years ago. So, guys, if you have any other ideas, please share.

As of 29/12/2006 it has yet to be released in DVD (sigh).

It's time now, please!

02/2008 and still not on DVD. What a shame!

EDIT:
It is March 2009, and I received the DVD from Amazon.de a couple of days ago. I immediately played it on my cracked multi-region DVD player.
The price is more than acceptable, and the delivery was even faster than from the US - I live in Canada.
It was a pleasant surprise from the German producers to transfer this movie on DVD as well as to present it with English soundtrack. Unfortunately, the image quality could be better, and the English soundtrack is not well synchronized during some scenes.
The sound is stereo only (Dolby Digital 2.0). Nevertheless, this movie doesn't need 5.1 to be a good movie.
Thank you very much to KSM GmbH for releasing this DVD.
The "finger" to Paramount for its inability to make the transfer on DVD.

amazon.de for pre-order

Finally...Enough is enough....It's been what....18 years??

Not even a laser disk!

I wonder if Paramount is going to wake up for God's sake....

The German DVD has an English soundtrack as far as I understood what it says on the page.
If no US release follows, I am so getting the German one.......

Edit:
Just letting everyone know that amazon.de has shipped the DVD to me.
Delivery from Germany to New York will probably take a couple of weeks.
I will post again once I receive it.
North American viewers: you must have a region free DVD player to watch this.

Edit:

Got the DVD from Germany. Very fast shipping from amazon.de.

I have mixed feelings regarding the transfer. The picture is a bit better than VHS quality but unfortunately not as good as it could have been.

Special features are limited to some stills, actors bios and trailers from other movies, ie non-existent.

No audio commentary. That would've been too much to ask, wouldn't it???

But at least the dvd is out. May be other distributors (read, Paramount) will now start picking up on it.

Anybody who is still visiting this thread--what role does Robert Stephens play in this film?

You--lighten up. You--big trouble. You--get in the car.
