I know that in the end, it said that it was fictional, but, I find that a lot of the times, that is what they claim, when in fact, it was inspired by a real event.

No, it wasnt based on a true story. However, date rape is a reality at many universities. And unlike the school in this film, many schools have a zero tolerance policy against date rape and will not protect the rapist like the school in this film.
